Today, I'm excited to have with me Tom Gould, who's the Director of Digital Transformation at Skanska, and we're talking about digitising construction.
Jason FosterHOST
1:21
There's a lot going on in construction.
Jason FosterHOST
1:23
Every project can be different.

Leo von GerlachHOST
4:25
It's so the full range of digitalization of everything in terms of health, that's kind of digital patients, files, smart devices, the whole management of the healthcare industry, digitalizing.
Leo von GerlachHOST
4:42
And with that, we just now perhaps shift a little bit more the focus to the legal support and your contacts within these healthcare providers or device producers that, well, with whom you work together and who in one way or the other, I assume, also have a digital transformation just within their own work.
Leo von GerlachHOST
5:10
So perhaps you just tell us, how does this work? digitalization of their industry and their service offering, their product offering, translates into their own legal work in their legal departments that support all this industry.
Melissa BianchiGUEST
5:31
Right.
Melissa BianchiGUEST
6:59
I'm much more having conversations, decision trees, playbooks, outlining clear escalation points, not writing as many memos, right? It's really more streamlined, faster, and practical.
Melissa BianchiGUEST
7:11
But the advice still has to reflect the complexity of the landscape.
Melissa BianchiGUEST
7:16
And that complexity, I think, remains the same or even is enhanced by the digital transformation that we're all experiencing.
Leo von GerlachHOST
7:23
Well, that sounds overly touching to the core of it.
Ted WindHOST
29:45
I love that.
Ted WindHOST
29:46
And you're teeing me up really nicely for the next question here, which is around that data and around digital transformation.
Ted WindHOST
29:52
That's another one of Horizon 2035's timeless influences.
Ted WindHOST
29:56
When you look at these best run chambers, how are they using technology, AI, and their member data differently from everyone else? And Especially, where do you see most chambers maybe under-investing or settling for tools that hold them back?
Jared JohnsonHOST

Zain IsmailHOST
9:11
So how would you describe the health system's current state of digital transformation? And that could be on the clinical side or the non-clinical side.
Zain IsmailHOST
9:18
Just kind of where are things in general?
Jared JohnsonHOST

With that, let's get to today's episode.

23 MINS LATER

Dustin RamsdellHOST
23:37
And then moving on to all the other pieces where I think on that flip side of the idea, kind of what I was saying about like students who earnestly, yeah, like super high interest and whatever, but they're hitting all these hurdles, whatever.
Dustin RamsdellHOST
23:46
The idea that the assumption would be, I guess you weren't that interested because you didn't push through all the arbitrary hurdles that we like put in your way.
Dustin RamsdellHOST
23:53
So I think, yeah, it's like somewhat of like a cultural mindset shift of just like that, which then hopefully can reframe how you're looking at your processes certainly as you would like we'll link out to the report in the episode description look at all that information the data and all that it's just okay like i'm looking at this a little bit more with the critical lens how it might apply to the way that our institution does this to where yeah the barriers aren't trying to weed out people they are keeping people out that would get a lot of value out of it and i think to a point i think as digital transformation and so many different regards helps institutions it's like that idea if you're lacking in resources if you are able to, even in just one short kind of instance, start to alleviate any of the sort of like manual processes or things that take up a lot of time or whatever else.
Dustin RamsdellHOST
24:41
It's like the very like kind of optimistic point of view that I would have is that You have more time and staff bandwidth to be more supportive of students and do more because you're maybe getting some stuff out of their way.
Patricia KosseimHOST
17:07
This roadmap outlines the township's AI principles, the results of its AI maturity assessments, future plans, and how it will use AI responsibly to support staff, residents, and council.

I think we were one of the first municipalities in Ontario actually to publicly put one of these out.
Marco Cheng-PerriSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
17:37
It was important to us because we knew there were concerns within the community about AI.
Elish Bul-GodleyHOST
1:29
But here is a place, the LEO, where they're actively helping small businesses thrive.

1:35
get that digital transformation every day.

26 MINS LATER

Elish Bul-GodleyHOST
27:56
So that's great.
Elish Bul-GodleyHOST
27:56
And I'm going to segue into a topic close to our heart here at Digital AI Decoded Podcast, which is obviously the digital side of things.
Elish Bul-GodleyHOST
28:04
Obviously, there's digital transformation, which is like productivity led.
Elish Bul-GodleyHOST
28:09
There's digital marketing.
Jon PaviaHOST
16:00
yeah So I want to segue into your, I think, early emphasis that you personally put, and I was reading about your background, on sort of the digitization of everything.
Jon PaviaHOST
16:17
I know that Bayer, and I want to talk about the digital transformation that they've emphasized, but you were focused on this about 10 years before the rest of the world.
Jon PaviaHOST
16:29
Tell us about that.
Melissa SawGUEST
16:30
Well, 10 years ago we didn't have, well, probably AI, but AI today is very different from AI yesterday, right? So I think what I already had that is the experimentation mentality.
Jon PaviaHOST
17:44
And when did you start thinking that way? I mean, because I know we're all thinking that way now, but it seems from everything I read, you were thinking about it a while back.
Melissa SawGUEST
17:52
Yeah, I was thinking about that because that's what we do in sales and marketing.
Melissa SawGUEST
17:56
And I'm also digital transformation, which is strategy and tech partnership.
Melissa SawGUEST
17:59
It's all about making us, how do I say, it's being uncomfortable, being comfortable in the sense that hey, if this is not working, try to bring somebody outside, which is technology leader.
