And how do you stitch them together? Because the piece is sort of continuous, isn't it?

Uh, well, the piece is based on, uh, a compositional device called the chromatic bass lament, which I think, uh, first shows up in Henry Purcell's, uh, Dido and Aeneas right at the end in Dido's Lament.

And this compositional device shows up in various love songs and, uh, in particular in, uh, the work of Mr. McCartney and Mr. Lennon, and I sort of stretched it over 42 minutes.

It appears several times in several keys, but the idea is that it's always gently falling as if ...

Yeah.

I wonder why it is that these, th- this sort of drooping ground base turns up so often in love music.

I mean, Dido's Lament, I suppose, isn't exactly a love song, but i- if I c- I can hear it in my head it, in, in Michelle, for instance.

So Lament is, well, I've always loved, it's Dido's Lament from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, a classical piece written in the 1680s.

But it's just got this beautiful falling motif in the string part that kind of I came across it as a teenager and, you know, when you feel you only know sorrow and no one else knows it, you identify with that sound.

And it's a piece that we both loved.

Sometimes they need song.

At one point, one of the boys can't really explain what Crow was, so he just sings Dido's Lament.
