Dicks

Let's go to another favourite track from Superfuzz Big Muff.

This one's a cover of a song by the trailblazing Texas punk rockers The Dicks.

The song Hate the Police is sadly more relevant in today's Ice Age than it was when it was first recorded in 1980.

Got himself a good job Kill a nigga, they're Mexicans I'll tell you one thing, it's true You can't find justice if I don't Yes, it's true.

Lynn is the drummer.

She was in a band called The Dicks, and I remember that was one of the first times I met Lynn at a Rock Against Reagan demonstration, and she was playing in Dicks.

She played drums.

Oh, yeah.

is and was.

Lynn Perko from Sister Double Happiness and the Dicks was in Frightwig for a minute.

It is great, grungy, noisy music.

I've always liked their records.

So this one, you know, is, uh, I mean, Butthole Sur- I mean, it's, it's, like, so much Texas, it's ridiculous.

But Butthole Surfers, Big Boys, um, uh, MDC, The Dicks, and DRI are all on this.

And then a bunch of other bands, uh, that I don't know as well.

JFA, Tales of Terror, The White Lie, and, you know, The Minutemen, which is pretty significant, those guys.

I mean, you know, you know, Husker Du was one of many bands in the '80s that tried to steer the course of American music in a different direction.

You know, Minutemen, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, you know what I mean? The Dicks, Big Boys, Naked Raygun, you know, DC, you know, all the, all the Dischord bands, Minor Threat, SOA.

I mean, there was...

You know, we were, we were very, very fortunate to be part of that movement, and we, Husker Du, took it in a personal direction when people were really solidly o- on the political part of it.

You know, he, he definitely took a lot of photos.

But he mainly was, was, uh, formed and birthed out of the, um, the Texas punk movement, featuring bands like The Dicks, the Big Boys, Scratch Acid, who would later...

You know, members would go on and form Jesus Lizard.

Um, but so many cool photographs.

... people can, can, can get a copy themselves.

But I mean, it's incredible.

And when, and when we say Texas punk for people who aren't, uh, who, who don't immediately flash on that, we're talking about Butthole Surfers, we're talking about the Big Boys, we're talking about the Dicks.

We're talking about-
