Diane Setterfield

Um, was there any particular literature you felt inspired by?

So some of the novels that really influenced Wayward were The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, which is one of my favorite dual timeline novels.

It's really fantastic.

I mean, honestly, if you haven't read it, I would cue that up for autumn because it's, like, the perfect kind of as the nights are drawing in read.

So let's turn to production notes.

Let's talk about the novelist Diane Setterfield.

Born in 1964, our British novelist who now lives in Oxford.

This was her first book, The Thirteenth Tale, published in 2006, and it was an instant success.

I will say the book is much more detailed.

It goes into a great deal more of the history of Angelfield, of all the various characters.

There are characters in the TV version that we just appear briefly for one scene, and Diane Setterfield likes to give all the characters a full backstory and plenty of room to breathe in the book.

So you do find out a great deal more in the book version.
