Diaclone

I was a child at the time.

I had no idea about the whole Diaclone, uh, other, um, not just Diaclone, but the other, um, you know, um, brands that, that Transformers were basically taking from and rebranding.

Um, but anyway, it was cool.

In any case, I got home to that and also a cabin bed.

Um, now there is a huge leap between 2020 exhaust and this version that's coming up now.

Um, the 2020 Selects version was clearly inspired by Diaclone Marlboro Wheeljack, uh, but was vastly removed from that for, like, all of the legal safeties.

Uh, this one is coming right back around the other side and is trying to fly as close to the sun as possible.

Yeah.

I l- I really love it.

I don't love it as much, and I love it in a different way.

Uh, I like the fact that it comes with the red sword, as opposed to the Diaclone sword that that one comes with.

Um, my only major issue with this i- and I didn't check to see if the toy deco does the same thing, but his upper torso, where it has that new, uh, slot on, uh, each side of his, uh, torso that lock in, there's ...

Right.

And specifically, they were pulling from two distinct, completely unrelated Japanese toy lines called Diaclone and Microman.

Which, if I'm understanding the source material correctly here, means none of these toys had anything to do with each other initially.

Nothing at all.

But anyway, next to that crowd, I would think that the long neck and the spike tail are fighting over fourth place at best.

So back in 1983, Takara took its Diaclone line into prehistory with a sub line called Dinosaur Robo.

Robot dinosaurs built to fight evil invaders, each one piloted by a tiny driver who sat in a cockpit in the robot's chest.

Sludge was Dinosaur Robo number three, the Brontosaurus, and Snarl was number four, the Stegosaurus.

And so with that, let's talk toys.

1985, G1 Dinobot Sludge and Snarl, the originals.

From the Diaclone Dinosaur Robo Number 3, Brontosaurus, and Number 4, Stegosaurus.

Both are packed with gold chrome and die-cast, and both come with energoswords, a rifle, a rocket launcher, and three missiles, fired by springs so weak they're basically decorative.

So, um, so what were Transformers before they were Transformers?

Diaclone.

Diaclone, and then there, there was a couple other lines to-

Mi-go-la-zone-

And this is the one that everyone loves.

This is 86 Ultra Magnus in his Diaclone colors.

And it also comes with a red...

Beachcomber? Yeah,

It's the Red Mirage, which is also, ironically, KO

colors.

Well, there is a KO that is red, but the red KO is referring to the Diaclone Mirage.

And actually, this set is referring to a box set, a Diaclone box set, where you could get all three of them together.
