We bring you a report out of the Nuwakot District, which is an area in central Nepal that's now grappling with the aftermath of the disaster.

Debris flows surged into the town of Devighat on the day of the disaster, damaging about 350 buildings, including homes and shops.

Survivors are lending each other a helping hand.

We will provide free support to those in need.

NHK visited one disaster-hit area in Nepal to survey the damage.

The town of Devighat is about 80 kilometers from where the floods began.

But despite that distance, authorities say mudslides still destroyed or damaged about 350 buildings.

A Hindu temple that attracted large numbers of worshipers was completely washed away.

As the work continues today to find survivors, some people are beginning to return home.

The CBC's Briar Stewart has that story from the village of Devighat, Nepal.

[water rushing] In the neighborhoods of Devighat, it's hard to figure out where some houses once stood.

Residents say more than a dozen were swept into the river, which still violently churns.

Other homes are covered in layers of sticky ash-gray mud.

Many others have signed a letter calling on the Canadian government to share resources like drones and infrared cameras with Nepal.

Nepal has not allowed foreign rescue crews to come in and help, just specialists from India and China to help search the mountainous tunnels.

We bring it back forth, and look.

Look at how wide this thing spread out into that community, just smashing everything around it, and the same with, uh, the town of Devighat.

If you go there, you see the river here nice and clean, and there are all the houses and all these places, and yet look at how the river just burst out there with this tremendous blast of damage out there.

And, and of course, if you were to fly over it, you'd see more of, of what we were seeing there on the ground as well.
