Devarim

Where are we going to go this week? This is interesting.

Like I said, the regular Torah portion would be ready for chapter 32 of the book of Deuteronomy or Devarim.

And that, of course, is where Moshe actually sings on the eve of his death the second of what are often called the two songs of Moshe.

And this is the one that we were told about at the end of last week's Torah portion.

We're going to do something a bit different today.

We are approaching the end of the book.

Just got a couple of more chapters left in Devarim or Deuteronomy before we hit the turnaround point.

And eventually we will start over again in Bereshit or Genesis 1.

Right? You can't just show favoritism to the poor.

Where the Gemara even says, uh, the Sifri quotes in Devarim, one is not allowed to even show favoritism to someone who you're scared of.

Right.

Not to the poor, not to somebody you're scared of.

And so they're not there for that purpose, they're there for a different purpose.

Why is there a second list of the behemoth? In Devarim, it says, which in Sanhul is a reference to a particular kind of animal.

Why do the birds repeat? Because the ra'ah is maybe the same as the yaya, maybe it's the da'ah.

Maybe the Gamal is also coming for something like that? Whenever we can add in a drusha, we will certainly do so.

Lay in a few of the good Pesukim, as it were, before, and a few good Pesukim, as it were, afterwards.

The klolis in Kisavoi, in Devarim, we're less worried about because they come from Moshe Rabbeinu.

In other words, they're transmitted, as we'll see in Mishavu'ah, through Moshe Rabbeinu, and therefore Moshe Rabbeinu sort of emasculates them a little bit he sort of dilutes them a little bit and therefore we can be mafsik in the klalos of Mishnah Torah i.e. of Parshas Kisovei nevertheless we are no egg not to it says there's a whole bunch of different minhagim about how to do this but the minhag is not to actually call somebody out but rather to say whoever wants to come up Have you ever seen that? I've never seen that.

Without him saying his name, whoever wants to come up to have this aliyah, please come up.

So this is the callous in Mishnah Torah in Parshas, in Sefer Devarim, in Parshas Kisava, you can technically break it.

They're not as severe as the Teichacha in Bechuk Esai.

You can play with where b'tocham is placed in there.

There's an interesting phrase in the beginning of Devarim.

When Moshe retells the story of Yitro, of the advice about the judiciary, he says, I directed the judges with the following.

Listen to your brothers, judge properly.

And you see the same thing here with bikurim.

And here's the fly in the ointment.

In the curse, in Sefer Devarim, that awful curse that we read two weeks ago, a week and a half ago, The ger in your midst will rise above you Step after step.

You're going to descend.
