Detroit Golf Club
Detroit Golf Club (DGC) has been part of Detroit's story since 1899 as an active participant in the city's identity, growth, and community. The club's competitive history runs deep. In 1941, DGC hosted what has since been called the “Ghost Ryder Cup”—an unofficial but celebrated wartime exhibition that brought together legends such as Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen at a time competitive golf had gone quiet. DGC also hosted the Western Amateur in 1911, the U.S. Mid-Amateur in 1992, and, since 2019, has been the home of the Rocket Mortgage Classic—the first PGA Tour event ever held in the city of Detroit. The club's legacy professionals include Horton Smith, who won the first Masters Tournament in 1934 and repeated in 1936, and Walter Burkemo, 1953 PGA Champion. The club's 219 wooded acres on Detroit's north side are home to two 18-hole courses designed by Donald Ross, one of fewer than 20 clubs in North America with that distinction. The North Course, recently restored in a landmark $16 million renovation led by architect Tyler Rae, reopens this season ahead of the 2026 Rocket Classic. The South Course remains one of the most authentic Ross designs in the country. Both courses sit inside a clubhouse designed by Albert Kahn, the architect behind the Fisher Building and much of the University of Michigan, whose 1916 Old English structure still anchors the property today. When not hosting tournaments or private events, our community of members enjoys a full-service club including dining, swimming, tennis, fitness, a pro shop, and a calendar of social and golf events—all within one of Detroit's most beautifully preserved residential neighborhoods.
