Desk Set

And we named it.

And I said to Hallie, I think we should call it Desk Set because that's one of my favorite, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy's Desk Set, which is still great and super relevant right now.

And I said, that's my favorite movie.

And Hallie said, You're kidding me.

And talk about serendipity and talk about coincidence and talk about the universe bringing someone together.

That's what that moment really was.

So we decided we couldn't call it Desk Set.

So then I asked her whether she'd ever seen the play The Women before.

I flew on Delta, and they have a really great catalog of films.

And I watched this movie called Desk Set that had a lot of Mad Men vibes, not in the tone of the film.

I mean, it was a lot more silly and colorful, not serious like Mad Men, but set in an office in the same time period.

And it was a rom-com.

Joan was back on the big screen, down shadowed by the woman who was married to her former husband, but that kind of thing didn't really get under Joan's skin.

The movie didn't do nearly as well as the 1939 version, but it had Joan back in Hollywood, and it gained her a few more movie roles in its wake, including parts in Desk Set with Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, whom she loved working with, both of them, and Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? With Jayne Mansfield and Tony Randall.

Joan had been through the wringer, but she crawled back to life each and every time life pushed her down, sometimes harder than others.

The most impressive part, again, is that she somehow managed to keep her sense of positivity and optimism through sexual assaults, multiple forced abortions, daily abuse, three failed marriages, and having to rebuild her life from the ground up.

And there were also films that he was kind of used in because he was Spencer Tracy.

Like there's one that he did with Katharine Hepburn that was called The Desk Set.

And it's the whole idea that a big computer is going to... going to take over the research section of a company.

And, you know, I kind of thought, no, no, that pairing was a little too, they had such an age difference that as he got older, it got weirder.
