Designated marksman rifle

Um, I don't know which one, when this was, 'cause he didn't live to be able to set it up.

But, um, we had just gotten these DMR rifles, which is the designated marksmanship rifle.

Um, we got them from the Army.

You know, there, there's not really a range you test shit at.

Yeah, right? Like they have an ability that somebody else doesn't.

Creating the DMR class gives purpose to semi-automatic...

Riflemen.

Right.

Like DMRs.

Yeah, DMRs, right? Bolt action only.

They have their advantage.

They can shoot a little bit higher,

So, um, as mentioned at the top of the show, um, in our Democracy's Toolbox segment this week, we're gonna take aim with, uh, marksman rifles.

Um, so the basic idea with marksman rifles is that they kind of, in my opinion, sit at an odd place in the arsenal.

They're really accurate.

They generally have a lower rate of fire, um, but higher damage per round over a longer range.

And I say that sits at an odd place in the arsenal because that kind of works counter to the closer range, high intensity firefights that we're most likely to encounter in an average mission.

But that isn't to say you should count them out, because with a little know-how and practice, they will serve any helldiver very well.

Um, so let me get your, you guy- your, your, both of your impressions on marksman rifles from the, the top down.

And there's one gun.

He's like, this is like the DMR.

and i was like oh yeah it is like dmr from halo i'm like oh yeah you worked on halo you probably you probably made it feel like

a dmr on purpose um that's that's such a like a small thing that for some reason i'm really into in games like control you know having

Uh, there's a new SMG.

So, okay, so we get a new assault rifle, a new carbine, a new, a new SMG, uh, LMG, a DMR, and a new bolt action.

So six new weapons for Season 5.

That's great.

This was supposed to be the 20-inch and supposed to have kind of – exposed the lead there.

20-inch, free-foot handguard, cold hammer forge barrel, precision stock, basically DMR jackal, kind of a poor man's SCAR-20S, hence the name.

That project abandoned.

As far as I can tell, there's no plans to develop it.

It's not available in their store.

There are 18-inch jackal 10s available that you could build out into a DMR if you felt like it, but there's no factory options.

Which, honestly, is probably the way it should be.

I feel like Deadeye to 45 for the DMR is pretty cool.

Because I think the Deadeye is good, but I think the Deadeye is kind of a one-note.

Like, it's a killer.

I asked this question one time because it was like... with the dead eye is like, can I take the DMR and the DMR? And the answer is yes.

But the, the second part of that is why would you? So usually there's like something else you want to do, but yet you can't.

every single one of them, I go down to 16 inches or even shorter than that, you know? And Daniel defense posted a, you know, like it's, it's like an engagement kind of bait post that had four different platforms on it.

One of them was like a DMR.

Then it was like a, a 13.5 308 and then like a mark 18 and then a pcc you know like a little pdw nine millimeter and they said uh if you could pick one platform for the rest of the year what would it be and i picked the short barrel 308 because i and even if you look at some of my go-to guns they're all as short as you can get like high horsepower because you're going to carry the gun the vast majority of the time and It's like, dude, realistically for hunting, for engagement, for whatever it is, I'm not trying to shoot somebody or an animal or whatever at a thousand yards.
