Descendents

And today on the show, a rare part two.

Returning to Turned Out A Punk, one of the all-time great guests from the band All, from the band Descendents, and from a brand-new incredible solo record, Stephen Egerton is here on the show.

And if you've heard Stephen's last appearance on the show, you know that, my God, this guy is full of incredible stories and incredible insights, and obviously is a punk rock legend, going back to Massaker Guys.

And, but we, we will talk about all this in a second.

Like, I really love this thing.

It, it's reminiscent to me of, of great American power pop.

Well, I was going to say The Descendants, but no, if you're a fan, it's just Descendants.

Descendants.

And it's not spelled correctly, no.

Which is...

I've typed out the band name Descendants so much that if I try to type the word correctly, it auto-corrects it to the band name.

And I'm just like, cool.

My work here is done.

All I cared about was skateboarding and going to shows.

My first... out of town band was Descendants.

I Don't Wanna Grow Up tour, yeah.

That was the first.

On what tour? I Don't Wanna Grow Up, the first album, whatever.

I saw that maybe at the Boston with my brothers at the channel, somewhere like not in my town, they took me to it.

But there was local shows I would go to, but yeah, I've just seen Descendants.

That was just a, I don't know, mind fuck because I love that record so much.

It was a really crazy time because, in fact, uh, a lot of us went to Mira Costa High School.

So at the same high school you had members of Descendents, Black Flag, and Circle Jerks.

Now, did you know any of them back then, or like-

Well, this was all-

But at the time, we, uh, the school newspaper, Mira Costa Mustang, uh, they did an article on my band.

I was doing a little garage cover band playing, like, Clash songs and Buzzcock songs and things like that.

And, and then the Descendents were coming out with this, uh, new album, I think it was Fat at the time, and I think they were working on Milo Goes to College.
