Derek Chinnery

I mean, this is just at random.

When I was called into Derek Chinnery's Radio 1 office to discuss the nuts and bolts of my new role, I found it difficult to hide my hurt feelings.

On the one hand, I wanted to make it clear that I was shocked, mystified and disappointed at losing the programme I'd presented for the past six years.

At the same time, I knew I couldn't overplay the drama because I needed to assure him that I was more than happy to bring my characteristic enthusiasm to the mid-morning slot.
