Alon is a German-Israeli researcher, a filmmaker, a strategist.

He's written for the Spiegel and other outlets and is the founding editor of a newsletter you should follow, kind of a mini think tank, he calls it, called Staatsräson Monitor.

We reached out to him because he published a report with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in July called The Campaign Against UNRWA and the Palestinian Right of Return in Germany.

UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

Uh, but I'm excited for the Josué De Paula era, and, uh, it started a little bit earlier than maybe we thought it was going to.

Uh, definitely earlier than Spiegel and Kevin thought it was going to, but yeah.

[laughs]

Like, you know, he was, like, a, an incredibly successful guy by, like, any metric.

But he-- During, like, the last interview he gave to Spiegel when he kind of had become marked man again during the kind of resurgence in anti-fascist, um, um, tendencies.

You know, he was like, "You know, when I was, you know, when I was in, when I was in my 20s, I was, uh, I was leading a tank across the steppe against the Red Army, you know, and we, we were prepared to go all the way to Moscow, crush it, and literally shake the world." You know, um, and then, uh, you know, like nothing, like, like nothing later in life is gonna come close to that, and everything else is gonna seem just kind of, like, mundane.

But it's also these guys felt like prisoners.

But, you know, everybody was hostage to the Cold War at this time, and particularly, like, in Europe.

And Peiper made that point too.

Like, when the Spiegel guy was trying to kind of, like, impeach his, his not, you know, not...

It, it kind of impeached his moral credibility.
