So guys, Innsmouth to me is an old aquatic sea town on, what is that, the Atlantic that speaks to religious horror, feminine horror, cult horror.

This is what we're going to rock out from here.

So I think the biggest thing that I want to shout out to Chaosium, Mike Mason, the developers for this instrument.

If you're familiar with the story, Shadows Over Innsmouth, not very shy about the sexual assault and the relationship between the Deep Ones and the humans in town.

Chaosium has pulled the sexual assault completely out and made it where any inbreeding mating between species has to be consensual for it to actually produce offspring.

As we're talking about this and debriefing it, what I'm kind of thinking is doing a Lovecraft Deep Ones monster conspiracy was the wrong move.

They are deathly afraid of even setting foot in it due to a fear of an undersea race, islanders who won't touch water.

And closest to Westeros, webbed hands and feet are a recurring feature among the sister-men.

It seems impervious to harm until you figure out the shooting the brain gimmick.

It's also described as something that you will find in Deep One communities, and there it serves the purpose of giving you a level of threat between the only moderately dangerous Deep One and the basically unstoppable Shoggoth.

One thread that we can see running through the whole book is this need to round out the Deep One monster palette by adding medium-level monsters, presumably to prevent players just mowing down squads of trident-wielding Deep Ones with Tommy guns, or fights with Deep Ones turning into just fights against a bunch of...

New England yokels with shotguns and pistols.

Neither of those really give you the mood you want from your Deep Ones.

So I get the desire to have a Deep One bugbear.

So the Dweller in the Depths is a perfectly usable Cthulhu-themed You know, blob, tentacle, monster.

It's got a vulnerability.

It wasn't Dr. Akuma.

It may have been a monster, which like if you really want to push it, you could say that this movie is Lovecraftian because the idea of sea creatures, evil, malevolent creatures coming up onto land and, you know, copulating with people in fishing towns is like that's like in like six different Lovecraft short stories called Deep Ones.

And.

uh tear it in his mouth there's a whole bunch of them and this very this movie very gracefully is just like yeah maybe that's the cause and they never deal with it they never you never run into like a sea monster or a fish man um they never bother i love that they they just throw it away

Difficult to get.

I mean, I will warn you, there are some Deep One vampires on board.

Albrecht has all sorts to help out his cause here, but I mean, it's going to be difficult to find.

the you see a dead deep one heart weird for a deep one to drown but they're they've been uh a part of the sacrifice uh unfortunately also dead uh but we do see uh Catherine Reed alive a magistrate's wife mother of three who looks dehydrated kind of like worse for the wear but very much alive so in total that's seven prisoners and Catherine Reed okay alive down here in in these areas there are multiple kind of uh prison cells down here uh cages i should say uh i'm just going to randomly kind of divide up two uh but uh if we want to start checking cages it's going to be um a one two or three a cage is locked a four five or six the cage is open uh because we're entering a new area i also need someone to roll a d10 i will also help with that

Whether the two are connected can only be speculated, though in my opinion it is greatly suggested.

And as for the Merlings and the Drowned Spirits of the Waters, we know that the stories of Merlings and Deep Ones exist throughout the known world.

Their presence seems undeniable.

As for the Drowned Spirits, they seem to be a reference to the dead marshes of J.R.R. Tolkien's lore, but they may have been mentioned in A Song of Ice and Fire before The World of Ice and Fire.

... was, like, um, so the original Creature from the Black Lagoon, uh, which is like a fish man monster thing, um, and you know Lovecraft did his take on that way back in the 19, you know, 30s, uh, with the Deep Ones from Shadow Over Innsmouth.

That's such a classic monster archetype, and yet if you actually pay attention, there's, like, I don't know, four, maybe five movies that really feature that.

There's the original Creature trilogy, and there's been, like, a couple of things here and there.
