Death on the Nile

But I would say, as Adam says, go in with an open Open mind, open heart.

I would say a fun one to go in with potentially, uh, would be like The B- The Blue Train or Death on the Nile, because they're, they're, you know, classic stories, big epics, and I think you'll enjoy yourself, Ben.

But Ben, will you just be careful when you go to Halloween parties? That's all I ask, please.

We, uh, we're talking about Death on the Nile and its many adaptations with our lovely friend Ian Hallard-

... um, just before the events here at Picturehouse Central with him, and he said i- isn't it funny how the Suchet version is probably the most worthy version, but it looks so miserable [laughs] 'cause they seem to have picked the days when it was just very gray-

did it come about? I mean, the really quick version is that 1974, we have the Albert Finlay murder on the Orient Express, and then we've got Death on the Nile with Peter Huston of 1978.

So the obvious thing is for there to be a Miss Marple film then.

But there are a few questions about it.

And Peter Ustinov.

Peter Ustinov also played Poirot in Death on the Nile, which I feel was like in the 70s.

So will we say 1974? I think so.

That sounds like a good guess.

I mean, this woman made over 100 films, you know, in a six decade career.

So you're looking at someone who kept going and very definitely, even if you see something like Death on the Nile, which is one of my favourite kind of later films of her, herself and Maggie Smith are incredible.

There's this wonderful kind of double act between them where she can walk away with a film, even if she has maybe even the smallest little sliver of a part.

And I have not started this yet, but I will be starting it this evening.

Death on the Island by Eliza Reid.

And she is the former First Lady of Iceland.

She's Canadian by birth, married a guy from Iceland, and he became the prime minister.

And so, yeah, it's her, her work is still being updated and, you know, to this day.

There was a long-running play called The Mousetrap, but the film adaptations actually date back to 1931, which was, I believe, the murder of Roger Ackroyd was the first one that got a film.

And then they continue to this day with re-adaptations like Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and Evil Under the Sun.

were all done in the 70s and being redone in the 21st century.

And I feel like in a lot of roles after this, She's always great, but the writing wasn't necessarily as rich and full-rounded in terms of the character.

Two years after this, she's in Death on the Nile, the Agatha Christie movie, and she's just kind of sitting there smoking a cigarette, doing her Arch Bette Davis thing, because that's all the writing requires of her.

She's fantastic in The Watcher in the Woods in 1981, the Disney horror movie they never made.
