Death

So...

Death is super eager to see you tackle the challenges of the world without the comfort of respawning, so we thought it was wise to give you a heads up of what to expect when you jump in next month on November 4th.

To begin, you'll need to start your journey on Tutorial Island with a fresh player, fresh character, where you'll find a new inhabitant that goes by Death's Delegate, hanging around near the Magic Instructor's house and Paul the Iron Man Tutor.

This mini-sized reaper will allow you to access Death's coffer straight from Tutorial Island, where you'll get to speak with Death and accept his challenge in person.

Okay.

Will you be brave enough to face Death head-on? This guy's mini.

Oh, my God.

He's like a gnome child, but like Death's child.

The bosses also look great.

Dracula's right-hand man, Death, sports perhaps my favorite of his designs in the entire series, and what might be the coolest scythe I've ever seen.

But despite their sick new looks, there is a surprisingly low variety of enemies overall, with some unfortunate notable omissions.

Fan favorites like Legion, the massive ball of corpses, and even iconic monsters like the wall-mounted skeleton dragon head, RMIA, with Belmont's Curse relying more on palette swaps of creatures for the stronger foes you face in later areas.

You have your signature sword, the Chaos Eater, but you also have an upgradable scythe-style weapon, which you can sort of send, um, kind of overhead in a circular motion or spinning around you.

Did you steal that from Death, I guess? [laughs]

You get a lot of stuff.

And you can-

Very cool.

Yeah, I, I, I remember really enjoying that one.

The s- the sequel, did it have a subtitle, or just, is it just Darksiders II? We actually play as Death, so a different horseman.

And it was actually quite a different game.

Sorry, I just need to read you this line from the Steam page.

"Face off against legendary bosses, including Death, Medusa, and Carmilla, in addition to enigmatic new bosses such as Joan of Arc."

Oh my God.

[laughs]

But it's, like, Medusa is, like, a, a very early boss, and she's, like, important to Rose's dialogue, I suppose.

And, um, Death, of course.

Like, Death comes up pretty early in the game, but he's kind of like a recurring villain in interesting ways.

And his boss fight is, like...

It feels like a real, like, uh, you know, gatekeeper moment in terms of difficulty where it's like, okay, like, you have all your skills now.

Now it's time to go up against Death, and if you can do this, like, you're ready for the huge open end game when, like, movement around the various maps becomes easier and, like, the fast travel opens up as well.

So Death was definitely, like, a, like, a highlight of the game for me.

Uh, the character Death, fighting him.

Right.

Uh, Wolverine and Jean learn that Walter is willingly working with The Hand, uh, and Lady Deathstrike to create the helix engine, um, which could go and activate dormant mutant genes.

Um, so yeah, uh, W- Walter then goes and turns into just some creature, um, and, uh, we, we have like a fight against all of, like, Walter and...

But it's not, like, a full, like, Walter fi- Like, it's, uh, like, we're just fighting a bunch-

Yeah

... of the people that were made with the helix engine for a bit there.

We go and fight, uh, Lady Deathstrike, um, who attempts to use the helix, uh, engine to heal herself, um, but it ends up killing herself.

But we have that also...

... uh, I can only really...

There was Death.

You came across Death.

And-

Mm-hmm

You're just like, "Oh."

No.

"Here's his body part." I think Death you had to fight, and he, uh, after Death you got, uh, one of Dracula's body parts.

And then I go and face Dracula once and for all.

With, of course, Death as his partner.

But similar to Dawn of Sorrow, I am approaching the end of this mode as well.

But yeah, that is everything I've played this past week.
