But also, again, it's allowing yourself to kind of feel those feelings and be in a safe place with that, I think, is really lacking in our society, especially for men.
28:50
Yeah, I mean, this is kind of what I explore in the Better Man podcast, as you've mentioned.
28:56
But there's so many things that are preventing men from being mentally well in this day and age.
29:06
I hate that phrase, in this day and age.
29:08
But we have...
29:11
We have constant distractions that prevent us from actually being in contact with our emotions.
29:15
We have social media which creates this appearance that we should be way more successful than we are, even for the guys who are high performers and are considered successful.

46:56
So can you tell us a little bit about that experience that you talked about in that episode?
11:22
What are they gonna see?
11:24
Yeah.
11:24
So I think sometimes you'll have yoga instructors who will kind of overinflate the benefits of yoga compared, compared to other exercise, and the reality is that yoga covers a lot of the same benefits that you'll get from other exercise, right? So yes, you will work on cardiovascular ability.
11:40
You're gonna work on strength.
11:42
It does have a bit more balance emphasis than a lot of types of exercise, right? So your most workouts, you're not standing on one leg and trying to do something for 30, 45, or 60 seconds.
11:53
Um, there's also not as much emphasis on flexibility, right? Or mobility.
11:57
Um, or, you know, it's also a great way to work on isometric strengthening.

15 MINS LATER

27:30
What, what is yoga doing to the central nervous system and, and what kind of effects do-- would people see if-- after practicing yoga?
14:51
What can this do for some of the pains that we have in our body? It really gets blood to some of the areas that people may not be, uh, uh, um, familiar, um, and that can help heal.
15:02
Yeah.
15:02
So I think, you know, the way that a good fitness-centric yoga program, um, will affect your body is it's going to work on all of the weaknesses that we don't typically address in a typical strength training routine.
15:15
So, you know, we're gonna do things where we are targeting transverse abdominis.
15:18
We're gonna do things where we're really targeting your glutes.
15:21
A lot of people think they're working their glutes, and they're really just working their quads.
15:25
So, um, what a lot of, you know, good movements do from yoga is they do isometric exercises that you'll find mostly in a physical therapy setting to get those muscles to turn on and get them working the way that they're supposed to.

14 MINS LATER

29:26
So why don't you comment on that? How does that help a guy? 'Cause, you know, these are issues that men get into as they, at all ages for the most part, so.
AlanHOST
17:56
I mean, other than I guess it's Man, but what else makes it different that I'd say, "Okay, this is what I'm getting," versus saying I would go do a standard basic yoga class?
18:07
So Man Flow Yoga is a fitness-centric and male-centric approach to yoga.
18:11
So fitness-centric in the sense that we are focusing on the physical fitness aspects of the workout.
18:18
So we are unapologetically a non-spiritual ... yoga workout, which some people would say is not yoga because we are not using the spiritual elements.
18:29
That's just what we do.
18:30
We focus on proper technique, we focus on the postures involved, but we also incorporate a lot of non-yoga postures.
18:38
We're not really dogmatic.

11 MINS LATER

AlanHOST
29:57
What are three strategies or tactics to get and stay well?
6:42
Like what should we be watching for?
6:45
So number one thing would be joint pain.
6:47
So if you just notice that you're having pain in your knees, your lower back or your shoulders, and that could be during the workout or afterwards.
6:53
And sometimes you'll get going and the pain will go away initially, but that's kind of just your endorphins taking over and you're like, I'll just push through it.
7:00
And then the next day it hurts anyways.
7:02
So that's warning sign number one.
7:04
Warning sign number two would be motivation for exercise.
8:01
So if female listeners are trying to speak into the lives of the men around them or What sort of like advice would you give them for how do you actually talk to a man who doesn't see himself as a yoga person, doesn't seeing himself as someone who needs to spend time stretching or doing mobility work? What would you say to them to encourage them? the men in their life to get started?
