... came out, just came out with an album called Stray Dogs, which is pretty good.
JoeHOST
52:45
Um, I still think their best album is their last one, which was, uh, Dead Club City, but I will say this.
JoeHOST

Cue up two songs in a row from this band.
JoeHOST
52:55
The first one is a song called "Overcome," which is from Dead Club City, which came out in '23, and the other one is a song called "Evolution" from this Stray Dogs album.

And if those songs don't make you want to go, I don't know, like if they don't just uplift you in a way that makes you want to go do something, I don't...

I, I, there, there's just something beautiful about the crafting and the delivery, and I, I think the, what's the guy's name? Connor Mason is the vocalist.
JoeHOST
56:11
I j- I just, um, yeah, I just...
JoeHOST

They're vinyl worthy.

We don't think about those things, you know.

I guess the last album, Dead Club City, was your most experimental, wasn't it? Playing with characters, really building a universe.
Abbie McCarthyHOST

That must have been great to just fully throw yourself into a new world.
Joe Langridge-BrownGUEST

It was, yeah.

and then the rest of the songs obviously no one's heard yet i'm i'm buzzing to for people to hear there's a lot of rock in it which people like yeah

yeah cool man and straight dogs follows on from your very first number one album dead club city which came out 2023 mate like You mentioned that you've sort of gone down the more garage rock one on this one, but was it tempting at all to stick to the same winning formula off that album? You knew it worked.
Kris PetersHOST
6:47
You knew it went to number one.
Kris PetersHOST
6:48
So was it tempting just to rehash that or was it important to move on?

And I do often wonder, had they been in bands themselves, would that have been a slightly different situation? dynamic um so i think as a broader sort of skill set as a producer it can't it can't hurt coming from a band background

absolutely um and from what i know about the album so far obviously there's only three songs out so far but um it's the complete opposite of dead club city so you're saying you know this one's more raw organic and i've seen about capturing the live feel um rather than more you know tight and polished so you know what did that decision change about the way you approach the production this time
Dom CraikGUEST

Well, I think looking back to where we were at with Dead Club City, that was very much inspired within the computer.

I was very into French disco dance, everything from Justice to the old Daft Punk records to some more... niche, like, I don't even know the artists, but random songs that would come on off the back of listening to Just Ease for two hours straight, which I wouldn't recommend anyone does because that can get slightly fatiguing.

But I was in that headspace and trying to really get my chops up in terms of, like, programming, really, like, learning the art of sidechain compression and using outboard gear in a way that was kind of tasteful and would elevate... predominantly electronically based music and that was a new a new world for me to dive into and kind of threw myself into it and loved it i love how meticulous it is i love the detail and i love like how you can refine something to the point of is it perfect or is it just becoming different now you definitely start getting in your own head about it but that was kind of the the last taste of proper music production I had before we took a break.
