But from my side of things, gosh, I can't even remember.

I think it was 2007 or 2008, DC Shoes kind of approached me, and I had my own separate deal with DC as an amateur.

But I'm not quite sure.

I think maybe they sold to Quicksilver or something, and kind of the marketing money got moved around.

But you really don't see as much as... as much as DC Shoes these days, so I'm not quite sure where they're at in terms of their action sports sponsorship.

so there will be a lot there as well.

We will announce the winner of our DC Shoes competition, as well as touch on the WSX announcement that came out last night.

What, um, so you were there like two years, you said?

Yeah, I was there for a couple of years and then I went to DC Shoes.

I got to get this job.

And I don't know if I manifested it or what, but I got the job and, uh, it was just it was cool too because i always had the dream of like living in california and specifically just like living by the beach i just like always fantasized about that so now i could go to huntington beach live by the beach work at dc and it was just like it was something that like when the opportunity came i was like i had this i have to figure this out

could you um cherished that moment like dude like okay I'm in Huntington Beach I'm working for DC Shoes I'm out camping in the desert with the raddest dudes did you look did you look around and go pinch myself or you just you were in the water swimming just to

Thankfully, I mean, it's pretty surprising, but like as a young 20 something year old, I did have the awareness to realize how special that was at the time.

Oh, I just bought me some shoes for the first time in like four fucking years.

Well, I bought some motorcycle boots like when I first got my motorcycle, 'cause that's a necessity, 'cause that's- Regular shoes are too soft to shift that clutch, so fucking I bought, um, I just bought some DC shoes.

Like some s- I, I still like to dress like I'm 15, and so, uh, I definitely got some fucking, I got some DC sneakers.

That's a, that's a guy thing.

But yeah, so it was like, I just had those two lanes because while there is so much fun outdoor stuff, you need a car, you need a couple bucks in your pocket, things that I never had.

And until my music career started actually working out for me and happened, then it was kind of like get home from tour and suddenly I've got some snowboard gear because my friend owns DC Shoes and kicks me some snowboard gear.

I'm like, oh shit, now I can finally give this a go.

Right.

And I had always known Ken.

through skateboarding, through DC, you know, with Damon and, and the distribution team and stuff.

And it's like, even then he was the cool guy, you know, and you're just like, here's this guy who skated and, and was just super tight with all these amazing people, you know, Danny way, call him a K all, all the teams, all the early days, you know, as DC was growing up before DC became the powerhouse that it was.

So you just always look at, Ken is this like amazing business guy that just grew the, you know, not only the DC brand, but everything he did between DC drawers and everything else that he was into.

And this is way before he ever stepped foot like in rally cars.

But during the GoPro days with, with Ken was like, he was an athlete.

And it was like this part of transitioning.

Cause he was like, Now going from like this brand guy who built these amazing brands and, you know, skate and snow industry had done films himself and put out amazing videos.

And they also expanded aggressively when the brand was hot in the late 2000s.

Between 2013 and 2015, revenues declined more than 26% across the Quiksilver brand portfolio, which included things like DC Shoes and Roxy.

They had high fixed costs, high debt, and declining sales, which eventually led them to a bankruptcy, and they filed for bankruptcy back in 2015 before being taken over, you may have heard this company, Oaktree Capital.

So they were taken over-

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah.

And so he was always wearing DC Shoes, and so I always wanted to throw them on a roof or off a bridge.

Yes, Jeffrey Hurlings is now officially a six-time world champion, his third in the premier MXGP class and that is going to take up a chunk of this episode of the MXGP podcast show as well as debating the validity of Turkey as a Grand Prix destination.
