So in other words, you do the work, you send out an invoice, your customers pay you in thirty days because you give them thirty-day terms.
Steve CoughranHOST
3:58
That means you have a DSO, days sales outstanding, on your invoices of thirty days, right? If you send out an invoice and it takes sixty days for your customers to pay you, that means you have a DSO of sixty days.

What I want to just do real quick, when your introduction, you referred to DSO.
Bill FerrierGUEST
1:11
And for your listeners, I want to give some clarity with respect to what that is.
Steve CoughranHOST
17:34
Instead, you want specificity.
Steve CoughranHOST
17:36
What I want to hear from people, let's just say I go to an accounting manager and say, what does success look like in their role? I want them to say, A DSO, day sales outstanding ratio on accounts receivable, I want them to say a DSO of 35 days or less, under billings less than 15 days, a current ratio greater than 1.1, you get the point, right? So they can specifically describe what does success look like in their role.
Steve CoughranHOST
17:59

Okay.
Bill FerrierGUEST
13:57
What I do is I show companies, if you're querying, if you've got a cash flow problem, right, you not only look at your aging, right, but you have to calculate your days sales outstanding.
Bill FerrierGUEST
14:09
And what I mean by days sales outstanding, DSO, is the number of days it takes for your accounts receivable, your invoices from the time of billing to convert to actual cash in your bank account, right? Average DSO industries wide is about 57 days, okay? I was talking to a guy last week, his DSO was 103 days.
Bill FerrierGUEST
14:35
It does not take 103 days to pay an invoice.
Bill FerrierGUEST
14:40
You know what I'm trying to say?
