James RapienHOST
7:21
If Nico Collins is out finding ways to make sure that he does not beat you.
James RapienHOST
7:24
Dax Hill, certainly someone they could use on him.
James RapienHOST
7:26
I think they will use on him significant snaps where it's Dax Hill versus Dalton Schultz.
James RapienHOST
7:32
We'll see how that goes.
James RapienHOST
7:33
Obviously, these linebackers are going to be tested.
Joel MoranHOST
26:53
No, Nico Collins is going to hurt.
Joel MoranHOST
26:55
Somebody's going to have to step up and the Bengals got a really good corner in Dax Hill and their secondary as a whole played really well in week one.
Joel MoranHOST
27:02
And then offensively, I do believe that they're going to be able to do just enough and put up points.
Joel MoranHOST
27:06
That offensive line looked really good in week one.
Nick CasarioSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
50:44
Two young, good linebackers, Carter and Knight, were both rookies last year, and they were in the top three or four in their team in tackles.
Nick CasarioSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
50:50
um the good football players there in the secondary they've had some moving parts here a little bit but at a cooking free agency it kind of solidifies it a little bit battle returns and they kind of move Dax Hill into a little bit more of a full-time corner role well he's vacillated back and forth to Thomas meet corner nickel and safety um you know signed Duggar who gives him some depth there in the secondary but everything starts at the front and they've done a really good job and really from about week 10 until the end of the year last year they were on the top eight to ten in the league in multiple categories so um this is a team that's played better defensively now they have new players um and then offensively I mean everything starts with Joe um does everything well and there's not one thing he doesn't do well um other than the injuries but from a football standpoint I mean, he's smart.
Nick CasarioSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
51:37
He gets rid of the ball.
Nick CasarioSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
51:39
He has a low turnover rate.

25 MINS LATER

James RapienHOST
76:53
But if you know they're going to be a pain to deal with in the trenches and put pressure on your quarterback, that's a lot to start with if that's their baseline.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
77:01
It certainly might be.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
77:02
I think it might be a little too early to tell or to make that statement yet that that is going to be their identity because I do think the secondary is going to be a strength of this team too, especially in that cornerbacks room with DJ Turner and Dax Hill and then Brian Safety elevating that safety play as well and hoping you get so much more out of Jordan Battle this year playing along a Brian Cook.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
77:23
So I hope that continues to be the case, that they are an opportunistic defense, that they're going to you know wreak havoc especially there in the backfield and you know force pressure on opposing quarterbacks create turnovers would definitely love for that to be the identity of this defense.
Zim Who DeyHOST
23:40
I think that we're going to be a matchup nightmare for their offensive line, and I do feel like our corners will be able to do whatever they want to do.
Zim Who DeyHOST
23:47
I think Dax Hill going up against Nico Collins is a big matchup, and I think they should cloud coverage there.
Zim Who DeyHOST
23:53
You're going to have DJ Turner on the other side being able to eliminate whoever, if it's Noel or whoever.
Zim Who DeyHOST
23:58
I'll take a deep dive at this coming up.
Joe GoodberryHOST
27:34
And I, and then if Nico's out, Dalton Schultz becomes pretty much their de facto number one in terms of targets.
Joe GoodberryHOST
27:40
And I think they like to get the ball to Schultz anyway, so how do the Bengals cover him? Is this the day we start to see a little bit of, you know, maybe Takaryo Davis comes in, maybe Dax Hill goes into the slot? This seems like the game where, hey, if they don't have a true number one, I think of the, uh, Dolphins game last year and Darren Waller was their de facto number one.
Joe GoodberryHOST
27:59
Although, if I remember correctly, Waddle played, but they just, they let DJ Turner follow Waddle, and then they put Dax on Darren Waller.
Joe GoodberryHOST
28:05
That's right.
Mina KimesHOST
18:59
...
Mina KimesHOST
18:59
the corners are good, Dax Hill and D.J. Turner.
Mina KimesHOST
19:02
You bring in Brian Cook to stabilize things on the back end.
Mina KimesHOST
19:05
Um, in the front is Dexter Lawrence now.
James RapienHOST
20:13
D.J. Turner getting an interception.
James RapienHOST
20:14
That would be nice, wouldn't it? Dax Hill.
James RapienHOST
20:16
Maybe Jordan Battle, who's been very opportunistic.
James RapienHOST
20:21
Or maybe the guy who was all around the ball that wasn't necessarily known for his ball skills, Brian Cook, last week.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
21:43
Last year that cornerbacks room combined for four interceptions on the season.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
21:47
That's as many as Jordan Battle had.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
21:49
And so I think that's one major area that this group, especially as you're looking for DJ Turner and Dax Hill to take that next step, especially a guy like DJ to really kind of solidify himself as that elite shutdown corner who's going to be on the opposing team's one.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
22:04
He only had two picks last year, so we'd love to see that number go up.
ZimPANELIST
67:12
is going to have a pedestrian less than wide receiver.
ZimPANELIST
67:15
Dax Hill I think will be on Nico Collins with cloud coverage shaded to his side throughout the whole game.
ZimPANELIST
67:22
I think the Texans are going to want to run the football.
ZimPANELIST
67:24
I think the Bengals are probably going to try to protect Joe Burrow by running the football.
Ricky RoderickHOST
20:48
That's a great time to play your slot cornerbacks.
Ricky RoderickHOST
20:52
Dax Hill played 100% of the snaps all on the outside.
Ricky RoderickHOST
20:57
Shockingly, and I was wrong on this, I said he's someone to drop, but yet he still got seven tackles in this particular game, all of which were solo.
Ricky RoderickHOST
21:06
I don't trust that going forward, Sean, but he did defy the logic in this game as well.
Sean TeagueHOST
21:40
Um,
Ricky RoderickHOST
21:41
Yep.
Ricky RoderickHOST
21:42
Late last year when Jalen Davis moved, I mean, excuse me, when Dax Hill moved to the outside and Jalen Davis moved to the slot, Hill's numbers just plummeted.
Ricky RoderickHOST
21:52
So that's why I'm not expecting this to continue, but we shall see.
James RapienHOST
7:05
So he's got that dog in him.
James RapienHOST
7:06
I thought Dax Hill tackled really, really well.
James RapienHOST
7:08
We know what Brian Cook brings as a tackler.
James RapienHOST
7:10
So really the only other question mark is Jordan Battle.
