The Bengals Will Be TESTED in Week 2: Can Joe Burrow and the Offense Deliver in Houston?
J
7:21James RapienHOST
If Nico Collins is out finding ways to make sure that he does not beat you.
J
7:24James RapienHOST
Dax Hill, certainly someone they could use on him.
J
7:26James RapienHOST
I think they will use on him significant snaps where it's Dax Hill versus Dalton Schultz.
J
7:32James RapienHOST
We'll see how that goes.
J
7:33James RapienHOST
Obviously, these linebackers are going to be tested.
Jets UPSET Packers, Texans-Bengals, Bears-Vikings, and Week 2 BOLD Takes | Ep. 612
J
26:53Joel MoranHOST
No, Nico Collins is going to hurt.
J
26:55Joel MoranHOST
Somebody's going to have to step up and the Bengals got a really good corner in Dax Hill and their secondary as a whole played really well in week one.
J
27:02Joel MoranHOST
And then offensively, I do believe that they're going to be able to do just enough and put up points.
J
27:06Joel MoranHOST
That offensive line looked really good in week one.
9/18/26: Hours 1 and 2, Joe Burrow Injury, Concerns for Sunday, Texans Scouting Report
N
50:44Nick CasarioSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
Two young, good linebackers, Carter and Knight, were both rookies last year, and they were in the top three or four in their team in tackles.
N
50:50Nick CasarioSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
um the good football players there in the secondary they've had some moving parts here a little bit but at a cooking free agency it kind of solidifies it a little bit battle returns and they kind of move Dax Hill into a little bit more of a full-time corner role well he's vacillated back and forth to Thomas meet corner nickel and safety um you know signed Duggar who gives him some depth there in the secondary but everything starts at the front and they've done a really good job and really from about week 10 until the end of the year last year they were on the top eight to ten in the league in multiple categories so um this is a team that's played better defensively now they have new players um and then offensively I mean everything starts with Joe um does everything well and there's not one thing he doesn't do well um other than the injuries but from a football standpoint I mean, he's smart.
N
51:37Nick CasarioSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
He gets rid of the ball.
N
51:39Nick CasarioSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
He has a low turnover rate.
25 MINS LATER
J
76:53James RapienHOST
But if you know they're going to be a pain to deal with in the trenches and put pressure on your quarterback, that's a lot to start with if that's their baseline.
M
77:01Marisa ContipelliHOST
It certainly might be.
M
77:02Marisa ContipelliHOST
I think it might be a little too early to tell or to make that statement yet that that is going to be their identity because I do think the secondary is going to be a strength of this team too, especially in that cornerbacks room with DJ Turner and Dax Hill and then Brian Safety elevating that safety play as well and hoping you get so much more out of Jordan Battle this year playing along a Brian Cook.
M
77:23Marisa ContipelliHOST
So I hope that continues to be the case, that they are an opportunistic defense, that they're going to you know wreak havoc especially there in the backfield and you know force pressure on opposing quarterbacks create turnovers would definitely love for that to be the identity of this defense.
Joe Burrow Injury Update Texans Preview
Z
23:40Zim Who DeyHOST
I think that we're going to be a matchup nightmare for their offensive line, and I do feel like our corners will be able to do whatever they want to do.
Z
23:47Zim Who DeyHOST
I think Dax Hill going up against Nico Collins is a big matchup, and I think they should cloud coverage there.
Z
23:53Zim Who DeyHOST
You're going to have DJ Turner on the other side being able to eliminate whoever, if it's Noel or whoever.
Z
23:58Zim Who DeyHOST
I'll take a deep dive at this coming up.
BLUEPRINT: Bengals Can Go OVER THE TOP of Texans Defense as Joe Burrow Fights Through
J
27:34Joe GoodberryHOST
And I, and then if Nico's out, Dalton Schultz becomes pretty much their de facto number one in terms of targets.
J
27:40Joe GoodberryHOST
And I think they like to get the ball to Schultz anyway, so how do the Bengals cover him? Is this the day we start to see a little bit of, you know, maybe Takaryo Davis comes in, maybe Dax Hill goes into the slot? This seems like the game where, hey, if they don't have a true number one, I think of the, uh, Dolphins game last year and Darren Waller was their de facto number one.
J
27:59Joe GoodberryHOST
Although, if I remember correctly, Waddle played, but they just, they let DJ Turner follow Waddle, and then they put Dax on Darren Waller.
J
28:05Joe GoodberryHOST
That's right.

the corners are good, Dax Hill and D.J. Turner.
M
19:02Mina KimesHOST
You bring in Brian Cook to stabilize things on the back end.
M
19:05Mina KimesHOST
Um, in the front is Dexter Lawrence now.
9/17/26: Hours 3 and 4, Brad Evans Interview, Burrow Presser Takeaways, Bengals Locker Room
J
20:13James RapienHOST
D.J. Turner getting an interception.
J
20:14James RapienHOST
That would be nice, wouldn't it? Dax Hill.
J
20:16James RapienHOST
Maybe Jordan Battle, who's been very opportunistic.
J
20:21James RapienHOST
Or maybe the guy who was all around the ball that wasn't necessarily known for his ball skills, Brian Cook, last week.
M
21:43Marisa ContipelliHOST
Last year that cornerbacks room combined for four interceptions on the season.
M
21:47Marisa ContipelliHOST
That's as many as Jordan Battle had.
M
21:49Marisa ContipelliHOST
And so I think that's one major area that this group, especially as you're looking for DJ Turner and Dax Hill to take that next step, especially a guy like DJ to really kind of solidify himself as that elite shutdown corner who's going to be on the opposing team's one.
M
22:04Marisa ContipelliHOST
He only had two picks last year, so we'd love to see that number go up.

is going to have a pedestrian less than wide receiver.
Z
67:15ZimPANELIST
Dax Hill I think will be on Nico Collins with cloud coverage shaded to his side throughout the whole game.
Z
67:22ZimPANELIST
I think the Texans are going to want to run the football.
Z
67:24ZimPANELIST
I think the Bengals are probably going to try to protect Joe Burrow by running the football.

That's a great time to play your slot cornerbacks.
R
20:52Ricky RoderickHOST
Dax Hill played 100% of the snaps all on the outside.
R
20:57Ricky RoderickHOST
Shockingly, and I was wrong on this, I said he's someone to drop, but yet he still got seven tackles in this particular game, all of which were solo.
R
21:06Ricky RoderickHOST
I don't trust that going forward, Sean, but he did defy the logic in this game as well.
S
21:40Sean TeagueHOST
Um,
R
21:41Ricky RoderickHOST
Yep.
R
21:42Ricky RoderickHOST
Late last year when Jalen Davis moved, I mean, excuse me, when Dax Hill moved to the outside and Jalen Davis moved to the slot, Hill's numbers just plummeted.
R
21:52Ricky RoderickHOST
So that's why I'm not expecting this to continue, but we shall see.
9/16/26: Hours 3 and 4, Joe Goodberry Interview, Thoughts on the Bengals Defense
J
7:05James RapienHOST
So he's got that dog in him.
J
7:06James RapienHOST
I thought Dax Hill tackled really, really well.
J
7:08James RapienHOST
We know what Brian Cook brings as a tackler.
J
7:10James RapienHOST
So really the only other question mark is Jordan Battle.
