... to play this role? It was Fess Parker, the legendary Davy Crockett for the Disney, for Dis- Walt Disney Pictures at the time.

He wanted Fess Parker.

But do you know why Fess Parker didn't do it? Because Walt Disney didn't tell him and hid from him that, uh, John Ford wanted him to play Martin Pawley in The Searchers.

And, uh, he, uh, he found out about it years later, Jess Parker did, like, decades later.

Uh, and he has said in numerous interviews that it is the one career setback that he just holds onto because he thinks his entire life would've been different if he had played Martin Pawley in The Searchers instead of being seen as Davy Crockett for Disney.

This was Walt Disney, like, shun- uh, sh- uh, essentially k- uh, keeping him from doing this role.

So ugh, tough situation-

It's probably why, you know, two huge, budgeted, mega-epic movies were made about the Alamo.

You know, one with John Wayne as Davy Crockett and one with Billy Bob Thornton as...

Davy Crockett.

These were elaborately made movies with a lot of production value.

Lots of money put into them, but they both bombed at the box office because we don't want to see our soldiers, you know, get killed.

Yeah.

All right, well, I'm going to go with the Alamo, and I'm going to let you choose, you know, the audience choose which Alamo they want to see.

I will go with my favorite, which is really called Davy Crockett out the Alamo, starring Fess Parker as Davy Crockett.
