Davros

Right now I'm not seeing any evidence of that.

So Davros, my big predictions as best I could do here.

So right now I've got the Republicans optimistically at 220, possibly 221 if Max Miller in Ohio 7 can pull it off.

He's an incredible sculptor, artist, absolutely amazing.

And he was doing this Davros project, where he wanted to try and make the best Michael Wisher Davros.

And I saw it and I was like, ooh, that looks good.

And then when I messaged him, he was like, oh yeah, and I'm going to be working with Rob Ritchie, who we all know, who is going to be working on the brace, the headpiece and all this stuff.

Because you sort of see these Davros heads turn up occasionally, not as good as this, but you see them appear on eBay regularly.

And they don't have all this stuff.

They don't have all the gubbins.

So, yeah, I'm not really sure where he's going to live at the moment.

Well, it's the 1st of September 1979.

It's been nearly four years since anyone has seen Terry Nation's name in the opening credits of Doctor Who, and nearly four and a half years since Davros found cause to regret skimping on the thesaurus upgrade to the Daleks' vocabulary banks.

Oh.

But it turns out that there definitely is such a thing as pent-up demand, as tonight an astonishing 13 million people tune in for one more classic end-of-part-one Dalek reveal.

This, I think, is the story that I enjoy the most of all of Terry Nation's Dalek stories, even though I'm prepared to acknowledge that it is by no means the best.

by no means the best, but Peter and I, we were only eight.

So like for me as a, as a young child, I just remember having like, wow, it's the new Romana and then it's the Daleks and then it's Davros.

And, but I did have the revelation in my head that, oh, Davros isn't quite the same.

And, uh, the rest of it so we brought rob shearman to that to make a third guest i did all the interviewing on the day and and our people went along and stewarded so that was that was sort of our dress rehearsal to do who the following year that was a lovely day was that

yeah brilliant my nephew ended up looking after davros's money once he did a panel fantastic yeah

yeah and he was at hooverville this year was he not with his own son who absolutely loved the Cybermen and everything else we've got

there.

Which looks like an angry female child, who I wonder if that's Davros, because they've got, pardon the expression again, but they've got balls on their skirt.

They have got Dalek bumps, yes.

Inhibiting the body of an AI robot or something.

Like Davros in Doctor Who.

Yeah, just a head in a jar.

Still trying to stay relevant to Portugal.

and the design, but I also like the Scout Dalek, you know, these things actually kind of make a Scout Dalek makes 100% sense without writing some kind of weird law into it.

This is not like, oh, actually Davros is now going to start walking, we're not having a wheelchair anymore, because we don't offend people in wheelchairs, you know, and I think there's an element of that was like, have an understanding of the character don't just rewrite it for the sake of it don't just just don't muck about with it i think i think as you said they're kind of aware of what's happening it's like we want to keep it british have an understanding of the characters don't over rely on them but make sure you use them you know i think Yes, you don't want some company coming in and going, right, we're going to have all these brand new characters because we can sell the toys off them.

You know, yes, use the Daleks, use the Cybermen, use the Master.

Don't use the Rani.

I thought I keep going about I hated the Rani the first time round and hell they've made her even worse this time around it was just so dreadful I sat there and went no didn't want her back and she was bloody terrible yeah

And obviously they're mastering it at this point in the program where they make up the actors.

I guess they do it for the first time with the Draconians, don't they? But it becomes the standard thing that they do with Davros and with the Zygons.

But here I think it does work really well.

We can't really see the actors' lips and it doesn't matter.
