So this is actually quite interesting, and, you know, I'm sure you've probably have had conversations with many a chief people officer, and I'm sure like me, probably the many never really, like, set out to be, like, in this role.

So I mean, honestly, for me, like, I was initially a journalism major, and my inspiration was Oprah.
10:09
[laughs] Love Oprah.
10:11
And so she convinced me that storytelling was, like, one of the most powerful tools in the world, and honestly, she wasn't wrong.
10:20
And what shifted for me was a pivot into organizational behavior, where, you know, you get to marry the art and science of storytelling together, and really understanding the intricacies and, like, the complexities of, like, humans and our behavior.

So I found my way into the people function at a specialty grocery operation in the Bay Area called Drager's.
2:40
where i was in my early 20s already having exposure and interactions with the executive team um being in or having exposure to operations finance hr and communications all simultaneously and being in that environment was a kid start for me in my career and really gave me a broader picture of how systems operate um and so i was learning really how the business runs and then by 29 Married early married and I was recruited to build an entire people function for a company called affiliate and affiliate was in the space of computer accessories components and multichannel retail and e-commerce.
