Chris ScullionHOST

Um, the title music, which is probably David Wise, Andy.
Chris ScullionHOST

But yeah, it's, as a SNES prototype, it's one of the more impressive ones I've seen.
Chris ScullionHOST

The title music, which is probably David Wise, Andy, would be the title music for it.
Chris ScullionHOST
29:41
Just for nothing, so get him on the pod.
Chris ScullionHOST
29:43
It's really cool music.
Tim GettysHOST
41:53
A second controller can be used to control the enemies, too.

Rare composer Grant Kirkhope stated on X that, "The leak looks real to me" and asked fellow roam, fellow former Rare composer David Wise, who Kirkhope then said was responsible for the music in the Super Nintendo prototype, for his opinion.
Tim GettysHOST
42:07
"It looks real to me," he said.
Tim GettysHOST
42:09
"It was a long time ago from a previous millennium, just like me and you, but what a millennium." [laughs] God bless David Wise-

Stuttering CraigHOST

Stuttering CraigHOST
20:36
It was a long time ago, a previous millennium, just like me and you.
Stuttering CraigHOST
20:39
But what a millennium right here.
BryanHOST
19:48
We'll see how long this one lasts when we're all said and done.
BryanHOST
19:51
Um, obviously, like I said at the beginning, this episode was inspired by the classic Mine Cart Madness stage and music from Donkey Kong Country, which was composed by David Wise.
BryanHOST
20:05
We have played Mine Cart Madness previously from Donkey Kong Country on BG Mania before, so it could not be here, at least in its original form.
BryanHOST
20:15
Hang tight to the end of the show.
BryanHOST
20:17
But I still wanted something original from David Wise because, like I said, he inspired this theme.
BryanHOST
20:24
So to kick off my first block, we're gonna go ahead and take a listen to Moody Mae's Marsh Mine Cart from Yooka-Laylee, released April 11th, 2017, composed, of course, by David Wise.
BryanHOST
20:37
[upbeat music] Up next, we're gonna take a listen to Mine Cart from Shadowgate VR: The Mines of Mythrock, released June 17th, 2022, composed by Rich Douglas.
BryanHOST

[upbeat music] Closing out my first block, we're gonna take a listen to Shipyard Mine Cart Ride from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, released November 20th, 2011, composed by Hajime Wakai[upbeat music] Coming back in, we are first talking about Moody Maze Marsh Mine Cart from Yooka-Laylee.
Hyle RussellHOST
39:31
It's a really lovely game.
Hyle RussellHOST
39:33
I mean, it's beautiful and it's got one of my favorite David Wise soundtracks of all time.
Hyle RussellHOST
39:38
And yeah, you know, it's not Dinosaur Planet, but as we've seen from the Dinosaur Planet ROM leaks, it's pretty close.
Hyle RussellHOST
39:45
It's pretty close.

Charlie RosenGUEST

Absolutely.
Charlie RosenGUEST

People love Donkey Kong country.
Grant KirkhopeGUEST
44:33
I can't speak highly enough of those two.
Grant KirkhopeGUEST
44:38
And so I think there was a very Nintendo thing when it did the company, but don't think we ever really wrote like nintendo i think the closest to nintendo was probably dave wise dave wise could do that style i couldn't that's why when i came to the bunch of kazooie there was no point trying to try that kind of poppy jazz like koji condos because i can't write like that i'm useless that's it that's about my own thing so i don't feel like any of the rest of us maybe evelyn and dave because they were there the first of manga maybe they had a more nintendo bone in the body than we did but i don't feel like me grandma robin did
speaker_0HOST
45:06
what do you think the music, even though Banjo Kazooie doesn't sound like a Mario game, they do feel connected to me.
speaker_0HOST
45:14
And I don't know if that's just because they're on the N64, or if there is something between the two that makes them feel, even musically, that they belong to the same family of games.

It's kind of ironic that the most known dk music is probably me and his man is which is kind of like how did that happen like it should be nintendo's music should be the most well-known dk so it seems to be like dave's you can't escape that right i feel like the dk rap equally is probably i'm probably not as equal i think dave's tune is superior obviously because he got shit but um but um i feel the dk raps you know the fact that you can use it in the mario movie they thought they had to do it you seem to
speaker_0HOST
64:45
have a bit of a hatred for the dk rap

And I say let's kick things off with a track from Donkey Kong Land.
The MessengerHOST

The track is Kremlantis, and it was composed by David Wise and Graham Norgate.

That track that you just heard, that was Kremlantis from the game Donkey Kong Land, and it was composed by David Wise and Graham Norgate.
The MessengerHOST
5:56
Donkey Kong Land was a really cool spin-off of Donkey Kong Country for the Game Boy that borrowed a lot of elements from its big brother on the Super Nintendo.
The MessengerHOST
6:08
but also had its own ideas, too.
speaker_0HOST
29:06
I can speak from my own experience that growing up, all I ever wanted to do was be a composer guy.
speaker_0HOST
29:15
I wanted to be a David Wise.
speaker_0HOST
29:16
You know what I mean? When I was a kid, it was like, that's what I want to do.
speaker_0HOST
29:19
I want to compose like a donkey kong level soundtrack for a game and then that sort of like diminished and disappeared as i like came of age you know what i mean like as i got older as triple a development became what it became and as sort of indie development became what it became what i'm seeing a lot is these kind of independent movements to make a game by yourself and then there's kind of this very very strong incentive to just write your own music for the game So then someone like who just wants to compose music tends to kind of fall by the wayside.
