Could you just tell us a little bit about just kind of sketch for us this project, this field site, the chimpanzee community you work with there?

Yes, so the Ngogo Chimpanzee Project was started in 1995 by John Matani and David Watts.

David Watts first went there in 1993.

It is a long-term project, so a team of people have followed chimpanzees there every day since it began.

This is in the style of a lot of long-term research projects on animals in the wild, including Jean Goodall's study of chimpanzees at Gombe.

And it had about 200 individuals in it.

At its height.

So this is something that had been observed by researchers who were there earlier before John Matani and David Watts arrived, too, that there seemed to be a large number of males.
