There was a time that the tech innovation of Silicon Valley and the national defense apparatus run out of the Pentagon would have been considered strange bedfellows, but the need to put the nation's intellectual and financial capital together led Andreessen Horowitz to create its American Dynamism practice four years ago, led by partners Kathryn Boyle and David Ulevitch.

We started with a simple thesis, which was companies that are supporting the national interest.

Uh, we had made a number of investments, uh, in companies that were supporting aerospace defense, but there were very, very few companies before 2020, 2021, 2022 focused on those areas, focused on hardware, focused on supporting the national interest, and most importantly, focused on working with government.
