David Strathairn

Nicole Beharie, well cast as Strider's devoted wife, she's no pushover.

Among others of note in the cast, David Strathairn, who plays Strider's less than empathetic FBI boss.

Now, I've got to say, While the movie is engaging to a point, I was not fully sold.

I did not totally buy Yaya Abdul-Mateen II's transformation from the almost shy, silent type to the vigilante readily prepared to break the rules.

Of course, a mafia hitman is going to be the bad cop and he's going to torture the presumed bigots who were behind the murders of various people.

But what would have been a more interesting film is if the FBI agents, particularly Special Agent Roy K. Moore, who may also be a composite character, but who is played here by David Strathairn, would have actually gone through the logic with the audience about why they would hire people from the mafia to investigate some of their cases, rather than just having the FBI agents do it themselves.

That method is never explained.

It's just sort of given to you in the beginning that the FBI hires certain hit men to do the dirty work for them.

But I think it was a huge, huge mistake to have the special FBI agent be fictitious in this film.

It's not a fault to any of the actors in the film.

I think that David Strathairn, Giancarlo Esposito, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II acted well here, but there was also the curious miscasting of Mark Wahlberg, which leads me to give, by any means, my rating of a strikeout.

It probably would have been a flunk out if it hadn't been for some of the strong acting performances in this film.

I think he does a great job.

David Strathairn is in this.

Not in it a whole lot, but David Strathairn I don't think ever gives a bad performance.

He plays the FBI boss in that area.

And I also loved the scene when he calls roosevelt to try to ask him for help it's

Yeah, she was the wife.

And then the other person is Giancarlo Esposito, who's playing Vernon Dahmer, who is the NAACP chapter president.

It also has Josh Lucas, David Strathairn, Ethan Embry, and LaChanze.

And this is also going to be one of those films where I'm like, I don't know who I necessarily would recommend this to.

Because... due to the way it is fictionalizing certain things, I can't go and be like, this is the important tale of what happened to Vernon Dahmer, because it's not Vernon Dahmer's story.

This

was really about exploring a real life community and thus having people in that community play themselves, with the exceptions of Francis McDormand and David Strathairn, who, of course, was Pierce Milhouse Pratchett, the drug and vice lord from L.A.

Confidential, who was betrayed by Captain Dudley Smith and their attempts to retake Mickey Cohen's old rackets.

which is why when she needs a romantic interest who has the potential to lure her back into house life when he himself thinks, actually, I do want to live under a roof and be with my family again.

They did not turn to a real-life nomad.

They turned to David Strathairn, star of Good Night and Good Luck from George Clooney.

Because you need someone who can act on Frances McDormand's level, and there's not a lot of people in that category.

So I'm curious to get her take on this in a film form.

A really good cast arounds it out with Issa Rae, Dan Stevens, Zach Cherry, Ashley Park, Ed Helms, Sharon Stone and David Strathairn.

You know, sometimes when you're lining up a bunch of movies for a festival like TIFF, You're seeing, you know, like a bleak war movie followed by a serious trauma drama.

And it's nice to have a little bit of a light comedy to break it up.
