It's been chastening, to say the least, because just as we looked at maybe a West Ham that was just meandering into some form of form and then really hitting the straps against Wrexham, we've yet to see that from Burnley.

I think cautionary tales that we've seen in recent years, Leicester City being one of those, yes, there's points deductions involved in that and then finding themselves in League One.

I'm not saying for one second it's as drastic as that right now.

But in seasons where things aren't necessarily going quite right, the season can ebb away.

And just as you're kind of looking at different ends of the table and the tempo of a season can feel different when you are challenging or when you're mid-table or when you're looking behind you.

just when things aren't going great suddenly the games that go quicker and quicker and suddenly you're looking around going well we've 10 games in what we're doing 15 games in what we're doing that's what they've got to be really wary of it they've got a manager seeing what the championship's about they've got experience quite vast experience with regards to the top end of the premier league But it's not clicking at the moment and it's got to click sooner rather than later because it'll be a long old slog for a team that was for a very long time obviously more bothered about fighting away at the top end of the table.

But metaphorically, where do they go from here?

Do you think he will get it right? Do you think it's just a case of if you hire Russell Martin, you just have to accept that the style is going to be one way? Because he has said he's learned and adapted, but it is the same thing we're seeing again at Leicester, even in these early days to what we saw before.

Well, you have to adapt at some stage.

I think when it comes to what the philosophy side of football is, it's got to be hand in hand with the practical.

And if you're asking players to do things that they can't, then that suggests that the manager needs to look at themselves to be more flexible.

But I've always found him to be an open minded person.

kind of mentor of players yes he has a philosophy in inverted commas but he wouldn't ignorantly stick to that in the face of whatever the evidence was on the pitch so there must be an element of being able to be flexible and adaptable And fundamentally, they've got to start getting the job right because for a long time, like I said, even though we talk about a team that was at the kind of mercy of kind of points deductions and what was laid out in front of them by obviously governing bodies, then they find themselves in a division that they absolutely have to get out of as soon as possible because historically we've seen that League One doesn't care.

It'll keep Sheffield Wednesday there for a couple of seasons.

So again, things might look a little different for them in a couple of weeks, but it's been a solid enough start for Wrexham and Phil Parkinson and his boys, isn't it?

What have you learned in life about the championship or just anything really? What have you learned in the last few

days? In general, that would not fill the back of a fag packet, if that is such a saying anymore.

Over the weekend, I think not to get too carried away with success or defeat.

I think given the fact you find Southampton at the bottom, obviously with that points deduction they've got to work with.

And with the greatest respect, QPR at the top.

There's a whole kind of spectrum of teams that would have obviously wanted to step up and come away with something pretty stellar for the opening weekend.

But I think any team that's mounted a successful promotion challenge or any team that's avoided relegation or found themselves in trouble, they all know that after one weekend, you don't know what potentially the weekend has in store.

yeah fair enough if you can get away with it you might as well I mean the one thing I'd say is it's maybe it's obviously pre-season you look at the squads and the teams and you see the likes of West Ham and Wolves and the teams they're bringing down from the Premier League and you think these lot could run away with it but West Ham a bit different because obviously Burnley are a team that came down as well so that's probably on paper one of the two toughest tests of the season out of the way already but with Wolves it's very much a reminder that there's no easy games and no easy tasks in this league as well isn't it despite the quality you have on show which we did see in spells at Molineux on Friday night.

Where do you sit on that? Was this a punishment that you feel fits the crime?

Yeah, I think it's appropriate.

I think the breaking down of what the points deduction is and what the sanction is with being expelled from the actual competition.

Obviously, one's done from a league point of view, as in the league season.

One's done as a cup competition point of view.

And these sanctions were delivered for each one.

I understand that sense of... frustration for everyone involved.

grey nuanced area isn't it because you know marginal gains Lance Armstrong would say is one thing Dave Brailsford says it's another thing players who throw themselves to the ground in dramatic fashion in the box looking for a penalty when they've not been touched it's again another thing isn't it so you know football has never tried to sit on the moral high ground David I'm sure you'd agree and there are there's gamesmanship that goes on all the time in the game
