Schaefer read a novel called Ritual by David Pinner, in which a devout Christian policeman is called to investigate what appears to be the ritual murder of a young girl in a rural village and decided that would serve well as source material for the project.

So I didn't know that The Wicker Man was based on a novel, which is weird because I did The Wicker Man on Filmgasm years ago and probably researched it then and completely forgot.

This is off topic, but it's kind of similar.

It's not about that, but that's one of the big

themes.

So they thought Ritual by David Pinner, which is out of print.

I've tried to find this book.

The Wicker Man, released in 1973, based on the David Pinner novel called Ritual, starring Edward Woodward, Britt Eklund, Diane Cialento, Ingrid Pitt, and of course, the great Christopher Lee, directed by Robin Hardy.

Our synopsis is, a Puritan police sergeant arrives in a Scottish island village in search of a missing girl who the pagan locals claim never existed.

So I think we can talk about the general plot overview, but it's really a film of moments, isn't it? Uncomfortable kind of realisations and bizarre kind of activities with the locals.
