... you know, I've been an EMT instructor for a long time, and, um, of course, like everybody else, I started as an EMT, and I was very proud of the work that I did as an EMT, and I felt like I was making a difference, and I think EMTs do.

Um, but it is an inherently limited, uh, scope of practice.

It does not have to be an inherently limited knowledge base, but scope of practice is a, you know, fairly, um, you know, well-defined, uh, list of things that you can do for your patients.

Um, and, y- you know, I think that, um, it is, uh, sometimes challenging for EMTs to be utilized well, uh, in, in all systems.

And so I also think this is probably maybe a whole nother podcast, but I also sort of think that we really should be, um, implementing what you could call the Canadian model, where, um, you know, if you work on an ambulance, you're called a paramedic, and then there's levels of paramedic, um, you know, different scope that conforms to different levels of training and education.

Um, but it is, in some instances, broader, uh, than what we currently, uh, call EMT here in the United States.
