Jazz pianist Marcus, played by David Hemmings, witnesses the brutal murder of psychic Helga Ullmann, played by Marcia Morel, after a demonstration.

Haunted by the details he cannot fully recall, he teams with an aggressive reporter, Gianna, played by Daria Nicolodi, to investigate.

Clues lead to a mysterious villa, childhood drama, a book, and a series of increasing elaborate killings.

As a result, although he had a consistent and enviable career by anyone's standards, including work in both TV and film, he never really truly fulfilled the promise of his earlier acclaim.

His performance in Tenebrae is very good, and in fact, alongside Michael Brandon in Four Flies and David Hemmings in Deep Red, he is probably one of the best male leads in any Argento film.

Although, as we've heard in so many cases over the course of this series, he wasn't the first choice for the role.

Originally, Argento had wanted to cast Christopher Walken, but it was felt that this casting choice would make the main plot twist of the film far too obvious.

Oh, yeah.

With Hemmings, hasn't it?

David Hemmings starting to pay a lot on in that one.

Yeah, that very quick transition from young Hemmings to old Hemmings, where he put on weight and his eyebrows put on even more weight.

I've got it in, it's a weird sort of box set that Arrow released, but only had two films in it, this and The Big Racket.

And it's often talked about as a sort of companion piece to The Big Racket.

You know, his, the way he treats the models is really horrible.

David Hemmings plays the role of the photographer.

And it's called Blow Up because as a photographer, he was using, he's using the camera in the studio.

The models have to sort of do all these poses.

You can find tickets and showtimes at tiff.net. Then he picked Blow Up, the first English-language film from the Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni after the incredible run of La Ventura, La Notte, L'Eglise and Red Desert.

It stars David Hemmings as a self-absorbed English photographer who comes to believe he's photographed a murder while taking pictures in a London park.

Only, it's really not that simple.

Marketed as a snapshot of the mod culture of 1966, complete with appearances by Jane Birkin and the Yardbirds, Blow Up was a smash hit, even if audiences and critics couldn't necessarily agree on what it was they'd just seen.

And I picked blow up because I saw it recently and I discovered there's no trace of narrative until the 50th minute

in

that film, which is the part where the character of David Hemmings is starting to fight with the character of Vanessa Redgrave because he took a picture of her.

And that's the first trace of narrative.

And you didn't get much of that.

And so there was David Hemmings disporting himself with Jane Birkin, isn't it? It's Jane Birkin.

And we all looked at that.

Every chap in my sixth form looked at that and thought, that's what I want to do.
