David Healy

Akathisia, suicide, aggression, hostility, psychosis, hallucinogenesis, all of this stuff came up.

And so I made a phone call that I will never, ever forget to Professor David Healy, who is one of the world's leading experts on this subject.

And I said, look, is it possible that drugs could have caused this? And he said, you've no idea.

He said, you're lucky that you didn't kill yourself or the children or both.

I'm your host, Mike Vera, and today we are continuing a discussion on antidepressants.

Now, if you've seen some of my previous episodes with Dr. David Healy, you know that this is a topic that we've covered from a very specific perspective.

I mean, Dr. David Healy, his work, as I've discussed in the past, had a big impact on me.

And it led me down this path where once I started putting those episodes out, I really got to see the other side of it that I hadn't experienced because people were reaching out to me as patients, as people experiencing depression, as people who had taken or are taking antidepressants.

And that's just the side.

So that was one of the first things that Eric started, and it's my sister's husband, started putting all this stuff together, reading things.

He ordered books.

And one of the first books he ever ordered was from David Healy.

Now, this could be easy to attribute to their underlying mental illness, and that's why it's important to look at literature in healthy volunteers or those who have not been previously diagnosed.

So David Healy is arguably the most notorious whistleblower on this subject, and he has studied stable volunteers who become acutely suicidal after they are exposed to psychotropics.

There's also a very important study, came out, I believe, in twenty fourteen by Lucier and Crotty that looked at everyday folks who were medicated for what is often considered an adjustment disorder.

So everyday reactions to things like the passing of a pet or divorce or run-of-the-mill stress.
