David H. Hubel

So I want to balance those out in my response to you.

You know, I was raised as a biochemist in college and then as a physician, you know, my teacher of neuroscience, David Hubel, you know, taught me that, you know, you can understand the structure and function of the brain and how it's impacted by experience.

And in 1981, when I was in medical school with him, he won the Nobel Prize for showing how the patterns of energy, in terms of David Hubel and Torsten Wiesel's work, of light that you exposed a young organism to shape the structure of their brain.

So that was a pretty important finding.

I said, what do you call that? They said, we don't have a name for that.

I said, well, I'm a therapist and I want to describe it to my clients.

I'm also a teacher.

So I want to tell it to my students.

You don't often come across anthologies, and even less frequently do you come across anthologies that work.

Um, directed by Ed Dougherty, Brea Grant, and Chelsea Stardust, lovely name, um, starring James Paxton, Christopher Rodriguez Barett, Rob Rubel, Hubel, sorry, and James Urbaniak, and horror royalty Barbara Crampton.

Uh, Grind is a, as I say, an anthology that features these interconnected stories that revolve, that feat- uh, relating to the gig economy, hustle culture, and overall why late-stage capitalism is so fucking awful.

Which we all know, and yet here we are within it and not really sure how to get out of it.
