So definitely time for another spin of that one.

Wonder Bread.

Well, David Gates, he's from Tulsa.

They were, I'm sure, an L.A.-based band.

They had one guy in the band, Larry Nectal.

Bread was an American soft rock band formed in 1968 in Los Angeles, known for their melodic ballads, gentle pop arrangements, and harmonious vocals that helped define early 1970s soft rock.

Their music blended pop, folk, and adult contemporary influences, creating a smooth, emotional sound centered around David Gates' songwriting and vocals.

Even today, Bread's music continues to live on.

You'll still hear their songs on classic rock, soft rock, and adult contemporary radio, and they remain popular on streaming platforms where listeners revisit the mellow sound of the 1970s.

But while it sounds like something that must have been in their repertoire since the beginning, according to the producer, they didn't know the song at all before he suggested it.

Surprising enough in itself, but what's more surprising in retrospect is that the producer who suggested they record that hard R&B song was David Gates, who is now best known for being the leader of the '70s soft rock band Bread, writing, producing, singing, and playing all the instruments except drums on the group's number one hit, Make It with You, among other hits.
