I want to say sometimes you read something that quenches a thirst you didn't even know you had, like a cold glass of water on a hot day.

And that's what happened to me on Mother's Day when I opened David Gates's book of poetry and essays, A Rebellion of Care.

I sat down and time disappeared.

What felt like seconds turned into hours, devouring this beautiful little book of words that seemed to be exactly what my soul needed.

And so many of the people I know and support have souls that are a little parched right now.

I've been gifting this book on repeat ever since, and I was thrilled when David agreed to come on the show to talk about a story in what fueled this book.

David Gate is a poet, is a writer, is a visual artist who hails from London, UK, and now lives in the ancient Blue Ridge Mountains in Asheville, North Carolina.

And his work centers on care for the individual, the heart, the mind, the body, and the soul, and the nurture of community, culture, the earth and environment, the dignity of others, and spiritual communities.

We absolutely are.
