As always, I'm grateful to be joined by co-founder and principal at Oyster Group, Amanda Galbraith, and founder and chair at Abacus Data, David Coletto.

six minutes to go and presumably if there's still people in line to vote then those people have a you know have a right to vote so some people will vote a little bit later than 8 p.m and that's okay you should have gone earlier there was nobody when i went to vote earlier it was super smooth and very cool and i had my 18 year old with me and you know first time voting and it was a great experience and you know yay i've got another kid launched into adulthood so i'm pleased with that But the thing that I wanted to say, Evan, and I see that you've disappeared, but I think you'll reappear, is that David Coletto, who's the pollster behind Abacus Data, who has done a great deal of work, and he was publicly supporting his friend Mark Sutcliffe in his re-election bid, did say something at the very beginning of the campaign.
Brigitte PellerinHOST
1:27
I can't remember exactly when it was, around April or May.
Brigitte PellerinHOST
1:30
And I'm paraphrasing him because I don't have his exact quotes.

Going back to David Coletto's earlier point in the campaign, when you're in a situation where you want to have safety, you want to have security, you want to have stability because you're worried about the chaos in the world, then it makes sense to go with the guy you're like, eh, could be a lot better, but could also be a lot worse.
Brigitte PellerinHOST

There's Evan.

Are you kidding me? And we journalists love talking about them and splashing these people's faces on the paper.
Harrison LowmanGUEST

What I'm seeing is, I'm interested in David Coletto, who's showing polling that certain Torontonians are saying, hey, I think Chow is nice, I like her as a person, but I don't think she has a record.
Harrison LowmanGUEST
8:39
And that's seen in the fact that the Toronto Star, for God's sakes, Greg, could not endorse a candidate over the last few days.
Harrison LowmanGUEST
8:46
could not bring themselves to put their name behind the progressive candidate in this race.
Scott de Lange BoomHOST
16:15
Yeah, I've seen similar things being done by other pollsters.

David Coletto comes to mind on it.
Scott de Lange BoomHOST
16:22
I think he generally defines his terms a little clearer.
Ian BushfieldHOST

Abacus, David Coletto and his group have some of their numbers that they released in the days leading up to the referendum are almost bang on, even in terms of the breakdown in city votes and that type of thing.
Kelvin HeppnerPANELIST

And yeah, pretty resounding, I'd say, vote to stay and remain.
Kelvin HeppnerPANELIST
59:08
And even when you look at that 20-some percent that voted in favour of having a referendum down the road, The reason for it breaks down into where a lot of them are just trying to send a message to Ottawa on that type of thing.
