Dave Thornton

We had a frond of 11 at one event and that was Brickfields Park in the UK.

And that was Dave Thornton, Kai Farrell, Denise Williams, Christopher Miles, Ivan Storer, Nicky Always, Ellie Soper, James Knott.

Miriam Salo, Debbie and Andy Airy.

And there was also a front of nine at Tempelhofer Feld in Germany and they were Nicole Clark, Sunil Chamund, Christine, Eman and Juno Vergara, Gerald Magtenob, Sarah Brett, Paul Dempsey and Helen Parr.

People may respect you, they may agree with you in the meeting, they may even tell you things are going well, but are they telling you the truth? And maybe an even better question is, have you created the kind of environment where they feel like they can? Today's guest is Thasunda Brown Duckett, President and CEO of TIAA.

Thasunda was with us at the 2025 Global Leadership Summit, and she took the time to sit down with friend of the GLS, Paula Faris, to talk about how leaders like you can intentionally get proximate to your people to understand what they're seeing, what they're caring, and what you may be missing from where you sit.

You'll hear some very practical ways she does just that, including small group conversations with employees across the organization, and a simple question she uses to invite what she calls the counter-narrative.

But underneath all of those practices is a bigger leadership idea.

If you want excellence from your people, and I'm guessing that you do, you have to earn the right to demand it.

That means listening well.

Because the reality is, if I tell you my story, and if you tell me yours, we will find some commonality, but as importantly, we can be intellectually curious about our differences.

And so I just think we should have more conversation about seeing people.

no.

Shout out to Dave Thornton.

He knows his footballs was all Dave.

Next one.
