Gary, Dave Stockton, who's a, is a very old friend of yours and a 14 time, winner on on tour and two majors uh is going to be there to do a putting lesson uh for um for someone that uh that spent some money for the foundation and um once again you know uh it it's the spirit of golf and you know here's an old friend of yours coming up from the los angeles area to to do a clinic for your tournament once again it it you know the the feel good vibes just i don't know how you contain them gary

Well, my hat's off to Dave.

He's been so generous with his time, and to have him come up and be a part of it means a great deal, not only to me, but to everybody involved.

I don't really take Dave, this Dave Stockton tip I've been working on for years.

Like, don't take practice strokes.

Yeah.

We'll give him a locker, you know? Whereas, like, there's actually folks that do come back.

I remember when I was relatively new, I think it was Dave Stockton.

had a locker with his name on it.

And I hadn't gotten it.

Now, I would say I'm, I'm open-minded on that as long as I'm involved into the pick, and I- that's how I always tell the players, is that I, I, I've got a few names on my list, and I took Nicholas Colsaerts to guys that would inspire him a lot, not too much technique, loads of experience with players, field players themself.

First name that comes into mind is Dave Stockton.

And Dave Stockton's day was absolutely phenomenal and, and I can say that clearly.

Did I learn something technically? No.

Yeah, Dave Stockton ended up winning it at one over, but Charles Cootie was the guy that caught my eye.

This guy led by two strokes after three rounds.

He finished four over, but this wasn't Cootie's only time at the top where he sort of blew it.

I asked you on our radio interview about you being one of the greatest putters ever.

And you talked about Dave Stockton and George Archer.

Oh, absolutely.

And it's funny, a connection to both of them.

Dave Stockton was a roommate.

The way I heard it with Jim, knew him early on in college.

But Dave Stockton was the greatest putter, one of the best putters I ever saw.

And I knew that George Archer, you know, from Gilroy, he always said that he came up here to Pebble Beach and would putt before everybody was, before any of the shops were open.

This year, the format has been changed, and instead of 32 matches, the competition will be played over 20 matches with five foursomes on opening day, five four-balls on Friday, and ten singles on Saturday.

Besides Nicholas, the U.S. team includes Ray Floyd, Lou Graham, Hubert Green, Dave Hill, Don January, Jerry McGee, Hale Irwin, Ed Snead, Dave Stockton, Lenny Watkins, and Tom Watson.

Picking the scoreboard in the American League, after one and a half, Chicago leads Minnesota one to nothing.
