the guitar player from Vixen, and somebody else important, the guitar player from Dave the Snake Sabo from Skid Row.
Metal Dave GlessnerHOST
19:05
Right
Craig A. WilliamsGUEST
19:05
on.
MillsHOST
11:05
was there
Bill Van VagelGUEST
11:06
okay so then it wasn't skid row because dave sabo carries the name with another band called skid row
MillsHOST
11:12
okay so he then he might have been on his own
Bill Van VagelGUEST
11:15
Either on his own or he carried his own band with him or whatever.
Jacob GivensHOST
11:02
But you really got to commend Rick Allen on that.
Jacob GivensHOST
11:06
uh fighting through you know losing an arm as a drummer would probably be a point where a lot of people people would be like well i guess i'm not a drummer anymore not rick allen and so the name of the album hysteria comes from him that was how he described the experience that he was going through uh while losing the arm and so that that album title came from him and then also this album was the last one with guitarist steve clark who unfortunately uh died in 1991 of a combination of um pills and alcohol.
Jacob GivensHOST
11:36
And so he, this is the last album that, that Steve Clark is on.
Jacob GivensHOST
11:40
And also, uh, famous producer Mutt Lang is on this and his name came up again later.

41 MINS LATER

Jacob GivensHOST
52:25
He sent her the recordings and he wanted her to write the lyrics to it.
Jacob GivensHOST
52:30
And she just was overwhelmed by this 10 minute length of music and just just kind of was like, no, I don't think I can do it.
Jacob GivensHOST
52:38
So Prince brings it to his band, The Revolution, and a young guitarist, I think 18-year-old Wendy Melvoin at the time, she kind of comes up with those first opening chords that really shape how the song is going to go from being a country ballad to this rock ballad and what it becomes.
Jacob GivensHOST
52:57
Now, she doesn't take credit.
Craig GassGUEST
17:56
And, um, and we all got drunk, and, uh-
Luis J. GomezHOST
17:58
It was Dave "The Snake" Sabo from Skid Row.
Craig GassGUEST
18:00
[laughs]
Big Jay OakersonHOST
18:01
[laughs]
JoeHOST
8:58
annoys me...
JoeHOST
8:58
You can knock on her door and ask for Dave.
JoeHOST
9:00
They'll be like, Dave's not here, man.
JoeHOST
9:02
Yeah.
SarahHOST
9:03
They'll be like, all set.
JoeHOST
13:39
Yep.
SarahHOST
13:41
The song originally didn't have that guitar riff on it, which I found very interesting.
SarahHOST
13:49
If it wasn't for Dave Sabo from Skid Row, who they were on the record label with, being like, this song needs a guitar riff, then the song wouldn't have had a guitar riff on it.
Chris AkinHOST
0:00
Hey, what's happening? This is Snake from Skid Row, and you're watching CMS TV.
Chris AkinHOST

[rock music]
NeelyHOST

It's Metallica right here on your classic metal show from the Ride the Lightning release, that is Fight Fire with Fire, and-
John HolmbergHOST
11:51
So they had Skid Row without Sebastian, the lead singer.
John HolmbergHOST
11:56
Dave "Snake" Sabo was the star of Skid Row.
John HolmbergHOST
11:59
He's a guitar player.
John HolmbergHOST
12:00
So I went to that as kind of a goof to see all these '80s butt rock bands, and I'm having a good time.
John HolmbergHOST
11:51

John HolmbergHOST

JimmyHOST
4:15
Most of the records.
JimmyHOST
4:16
Um, the first major, major tour after, uh, the success of the single Runaway, Dave Sabo, the guitar player for what was going to be Skid Row, was set to be the live touring guitar player, and backed out because his band broke, and that's Skid Row.
JimmyHOST
4:36
Um-
JoeHOST
4:36
[laughs]
