Dave, can I come to you? How did you get involved with PitchUp? Yeah,

good question.

I was just trying to remember as Tim was speaking that I'm not actually sure how it came about.

I think it was just a mutual conversation.

And yeah, someone said, oh, you'd be good for this, Dave, and your farm.

You've got a lot of businesses and different ideas.

And back to, you know, what Tim said about disrupting and doing things differently.

So, you know, can enterprise stacking work for tenant farmers, for example, or does it require land ownership? Dave, what are your thoughts on that?

Mm

... having more nature-friendly gardens, having a better community, having a better brand for rural agriculture and our rural communities as being positive rather than the problem, and reframing farmers as a solution, then build houses in the countryside.

Just make sure they work for the community, for nature, for food production.

It can all be done.

But people would say, "Oh, people are building houses." Yeah, a road, there's not much you can do of a road, but people need it.

But it is the way it is done, and what I've really tried to do is challenge myself, and I've gone to intensive agricultural production.

I've gone to big monocultures, you know, just to see, understand why we're doing what we're doing, see the ghost acres, which we talked about.

Just a, a bit of backstory to yourself, Dave.

Yeah, so I'm a Cornish farmer, um, down on the Lizard, and old family farm, 150 acres.

Um, and we're very, very diversified.

We've tried all sorts, um, myself and also my parents.

Um, and yeah, married to Tara and got four kids, so family life is, um, a key for me to success.

You know, the business might do well, but if you haven't got a work, good work-life balance, then, um, to me that's a big, a big sign of success.

And I was just talking this evening with some friends about going to that next stage and employing people and, you know, exactly as Sam was describing about the right people is brilliant, the wrong people is certainly not.

Um, Dave, with a focus on your sort of topic, the, the, the reason for its synthesis, can you give us a wee bit of background to that, please, Dave?

All of us want to regenerate what we've lost.

Regen, in my opinion, should be a movement.

What really worries me is trying to put accreditation on what is a set of principles.

Organic has, rightly or wrongly, become an accreditation standard rather than a principle.

I think it's gone too far that way.

Regen is following the same footsteps.
