JeffGUEST
6:57
I came to a place in my performing career where I was thinking about what other avenues could be open to me.
JeffGUEST
7:05
My band at the time had done a record with a producer named Dave Cobb.
JeffGUEST
7:09
Dave, while he's doing this, I don't know what you'd call it exactly.
JeffGUEST
7:14
We weren't quite extremely punk, but it was like, Clash meets Nirvana or, you know, something in that mashup.
Eddie TrunkHOST
16:38
Was that something that you really put a lot of work into?
Joey TempestGUEST
16:41
Yeah, we deliberately did it this time because the albums before that you're familiar with, Bagger Bones with Kevin Shirley, we did with Dave Cobb, we did War of Kings and Walk the Earth.
Joey TempestGUEST
16:51
And these legends and these geniuses, they work fast.
Joey TempestGUEST
16:54
So we got used to that, getting into doing records fast and, OK, this is cool.
Joey TempestGUEST
21:30
But yeah, so yeah, I was here, but we recorded this time in Sweden.
Joey TempestGUEST
21:36
Last time we were in Abbey Road and I could get the guys over to London because I thought it'd be great to record so I can go home at night, you know.
Joey TempestGUEST
21:44
And the only way I could get everybody here was to say, I got two weeks in Abbey Road, you know, and then Dave Cobb was like, yeah, I think I have to do that.
Joey TempestGUEST
21:53
So it was great.
Hannah DasherGUEST
59:44
Shooter's one.
Hannah DasherGUEST
59:45
Dave Cobb's the other.
Stephan HoganHOST
59:46
I knew Dave was the other already because of the Stapleton stuff, all that live stuff he does.
Hannah DasherGUEST
59:51
Well, his name keeps coming up in conversation.
Hannah DasherGUEST
59:53
People are like, he would love you.
Hannah DasherGUEST
59:54
Have you thought about making a record with Dave Cobb? If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that from one of my buddies, yeah, I thought about it.
Hannah DasherGUEST
60:03
I'd sell my right boob and half my liver.
Hannah DasherGUEST
60:08
But yeah, it'd be great to go back home to Savannah and cut a record down there.

on time
HelenHOST
51:16
That is right on time by Brandi Carlile, Dave Cobb and Shooter Jennings, producers, Brandon Bell and Tom Ilmhurst, engineers, Pete Lyman, mastering engineer.
HelenHOST
51:28
The Rooted in Americana, the track was controversially shifted into the best pop solo performance category, along with Record of the Year and Song of the Year nominations at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, prompting Carlile to speak out about genre boundaries.
HelenHOST
51:44
Gav, what do you think of the song?
WesGUEST
5:58
But the new one is... we had all this momentum and all this buzz and excitement going so it was very easy to to feel inspired
Chris EdgeHOST
6:07
yeah and you changed producers dave cobb produced your first album uh new producers on the second intentional or just um yeah haphazard i mean i don't really understand that process how that works where you you select a producer to work on an album
WesGUEST
6:22
it's intentional I think it's all you know you want them to be enthusiastic about the music so if people reach out you're curious to see what that what is inspiring their enthusiasm and sometimes it doesn't make sense and you don't use work with that producer in this case uh Lawrence and Eve Rothman, the duo, siblings, they made a lot of sense because they got the music and I had a few phone calls with them and they said all the right things.
JackGUEST
6:55
Yeah.
Tracy LawrenceHOST
2:14
How's all that going and how did you land your deal?
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
2:17
So I'm with MCA and Lucille, and Dave Cobb is a huge part of that.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
2:21
Yeah.
Tracy LawrenceHOST
2:23
And Dave Cobb, as you know, Chris Stapleton, you know, he's producing.
Tracy LawrenceHOST
2:28
And who's the other Dave Cobb artist that we had on here? Wheeler.
Tracy LawrenceHOST
2:35
Yeah, Wheeler Walker Jr., which is an extreme left turn.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
2:38
Yeah, you'll have that.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
3:09
Great country singer-songwriter and great publisher.
Andrew PopeHOST
39:16
the good stuff we have.
Andrew PopeHOST
39:17
I think Dave Cobb has really got that dialed in these days.
Andrew PopeHOST
39:21
He
Ricky SkaggsGUEST
39:21
does.
Dave MustaineGUEST
42:09
I absolutely love it.
Dean DelrayHOST
42:11
You ever have a conversation or meet Chris Cobb, the big producer? Dave Cobb, sorry.
Dean DelrayHOST
42:20
He's basically like the Nashville Rick Rubin now, man.
Dean DelrayHOST
42:25
He's just doing all the killer records.
Chris JonesHOST
14:28
It's certainly the most – I think there are people who have picked up where he has left off in recent years.
Chris JonesHOST
14:34
There's Dave Cobb, who was Chris Stapleton's original producer and then worked with Jason Isbell and some others.
Chris JonesHOST
14:40
There is – I think his name is Alex Farrar.
Chris JonesHOST
14:41
It's no relation to Jay Farrar, who does the MJ Lennerman records.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
1:22
So...
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
1:24
Aaron Ratier calls me out of the blue one day and says, hey, man, Dave Cobb has me working at MCA Records.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
1:32
Do you want a record deal? And then his next sentence was, I think Dave Cobb should do your record.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
1:41
And I just never, it just all hit me completely out of the clear blue sky.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
1:47
And here we are.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
3:01
Obviously, just like I said, it wasn't a hard decision.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
3:05
Because I'd always dreamed of that.
Wyatt McCubbinGUEST
3:07
Never thought in a million years I'd get to go in the studio with Dave Cobb, who made a lot of the records that were pivotal in my very formative listening years, you know, in high school.
