Eastern Block and Hacienda have got a lot to answer for.

I know, right? This is now Guy, Graham Park, Dave Beer, because Dave Beer said his first visit to Hacienda changed his opinion on dance music.

And he was like, I want some of this, you know, because Hacienda was a band band.

um like a band venue before wasn't it for live bands

And so it also, I didn't realize at the time, but it was also, unless you came down and heard me and I started playing later sets and I'd actually play every set, you know, throughout it in different times, but it wasn't until my real turning point was my essential mix.

When I did The Essential Mix in 1988, 1998, so I'd been DJing out for about three or four years, but then people heard my sound and that was my real turning point.

So people like Dave Beer, who I'd known for years from going to, you know, clubs all the time.

And also Darren Hughes, who I knew from Chester.

So we, you know, we, we sometimes finish up in the studio and like Andrew was going to go and DJ in Leeds.

And so we'd jump in the car with him up to back to basics and go and see Dave Beer and for a night out we'd sometimes just finish up in the studio and then fly off to belfast to go see david holmes and watch him dj at sugar sweet and places like that so you know it was an amazing time you know brilliant i mean you know i used to love going over to belfast to david's club sugar sweet which was just absolutely incredible and we even played there as well i don't And I remember like going to Sugar Sweet and coming back from Belfast.

So this was at the time, you know, the troubles were still kind of going on.

And, you know, even then, you know, I used to work in David's studio.

I flew to New York and played for him there.

I mean, uh, there was like, from like Dave Beer with a fishing rod in the DJ booth to someone on a scooter going round the bar when there used to be a bar in the center, to, uh, Charlie stage diving on his 40th birthday.

And then that was like a, a ritual.

Everyone that played there had to stage dive.

Yeah.

It was so much fun.
