Learning that a book entitled Betsy Ross had been published in 1901, I procured a copy thinking it biographical or historical, but it proved to be a romance, pure and simple, woven about Mrs. Ross, who was represented as the heroine of her day and the principal designer of the flag.

Since 1891, several small works on the flag have been published, written by members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and dedicated to that organization.

In those works, great honor is given to Mrs. Ross.

Indeed, the members of the DAR as a whole seem to have accepted Mr. Camby's story as beyond dispute.

The local DAR Chapter Honors Founder with Cemetery Picnic.

Members of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolutionary gathered August 26th at Forest Hill Cemetery for the Chapter's annual picnic in the cemetery with Founder Jeanne Prescott.

Eight members brought lawn chairs and enjoyed lunch beneath the trees at the grave site at Prescott, who founded the local chapter in 1898.

The annual gathering gives members an opportunity to remember and honor Prescott and the legacy she established 128 years ago.

I'm not that old.

But, um, I remember in the 1960s, um, the Daughters of the American Revolution finally purchased the building from the city of Charleston, uh, because it was slated for demolition.

And a bunch of people were in arms.

You know, "We can't let this happen.

Um, during that time it would flood and silt would come in.

And so when you walk into the dungeon today, um, from the back, the first thing you notice is a set of free flying stairs that just end in midair.

And those were left there by the Daughters of the American Revolution to remind everybody that that's where the silt had accumulated.

So y- And so literally back then, if you had tried to crawl down in the dungeon, say in the 1960s, you would've had to have gotten on your hands and knees and crawled because there wasn't enough room to stand up from all the silt.

Lynn Bassett is an extraordinary historian focusing on New England quilts, extraordinary scholar.

And Alden O'Brien, who was just recently retired as the curator at the Daughters of the American Revolution Museum in DC, the DAR.

And Debbie Cooney, who is also an extraordinary, like, these women came together and they asked me to do this.

And so the first few episodes of that, I'm actually on camera.
