Dark Lover

My first four books sold and they were critically well received and I got nominated for a read on one of them and then my publisher let me go because they just weren't selling enough.

so i was forced to kind of have a reckoning with myself um and i thought well i want to stay in this business and i remember my agent at the time said you have to decide what a jessica bird book is and so i sat in front of a blank screen and just thought my dream was over and this was it for about 10 days or two weeks and there was this shadow in the back and i could sense something was there and then all of a sudden wrath showed up in my head and i had 10 books outlined um and the first big chunk of of dark lover and when i sent it into my to my agent i was I figured no one would buy it because it was just so out there for the time, you know? Especially the mating ceremony in Dark Lover, and it was just very dark, and it was very, it was different.

And the voice was totally my own.

And there was, I was really pleasantly surprised that it got picked up.
