Dark

It's, it's in Halloween Part Two, I think.

I guess it would probably replace Foul Play? Because Ghost and Dark offensively hit pretty much the same things, psychic and opposing ghosts.

Um, Ghost is not resistant, uh, so Ghost is not resisted by Fairy, which Dark is.

It's, um, I guess normals, it makes a difference with normals.

But, but [sighs] it's 45...

For the second battle of the night it was me against Dustin.

I led with my Sableye, Dustin led with his Gardevoir, and so already the audience at home, Sableye's a Dark and Ghost type, where Gardevoir is only a Psychic type in this generation.

Looking from the start, it looked like I had an advantage and I was wondering if Dustin would mess up and try and use Psychic against my Sableye, which would have no effect.

Like I have been doing every other game.

Psychic was super-duper broken in generation one.

Dark is also kind of an interesting one as far as translation goes because it's called dark type in English-speaking countries, but in Japan it's known as aku, which is, is translated as evil.

In French, it's pronounced, I'll do my best here, ténébreux, [laughs] or darkness.

And in Spanish, it's pronounced siniestro, or sinister.

So it kinda, it, it follows a theme, but it kinda changes from, from language to language, which I think is really interesting.

In generations two and three, all dark type moves were categorized as special.

Dark is super effective against psychic and ghost, and not very effective against fighting, dark, and fairy type Pokemon.

And as I mentioned, it takes no damage from s- from psychic type Pokemon.

But if you want to get yourself a Shiftry, you're going to have to use a Leafstone.

And Shiftry remains a Grass and Dark type Pokemon and is now known as the Wicked Pokemon, but Wicked spelled W-I-C-K-I-D.

Not sure why.

And it's Christ.

The funny part is, I don't think he was ever the ace of any gym leader in Hoenn.

Like...

It could get pretty crazy.

Then we have the other great league meta, which is Willpower Cup, and that was only Fighting, Dark, and Psychic types allowed.

A lot of Pokemon in this top 10 that we aren't used to seeing, the top of which being Alolan Muk.

Shadow definitely preferred.

It turns into a very rock, paper, scissors.

So you want to have... a Pokemon that can kind of like protect itself with that and kind of be the best of its type and maybe avoid some of those weaknesses.

So for example, Alolan Muk being at the top, Dark type in the triangle, it would be weak to fighters.

However, because it has that poison typing as an Alolan Muk, then fighting is just neutral.

I feel like there's an ebb and flow for sure.

Moving on to my old straight, I'm calling this straight deuces, okay? Because we've got Deoxys, we've got Unknown, and we've got no Dark, no Monkey, all right? So it's like straight Psychic, straight deuces.

You're taking two prizes or nothing, okay? and so that new unknown from celebrations has a 40 damage to energy cost attack that if you knock opponent if you knock out your opponent's pokemon with uh this attack you take an extra prize card uh and so there's just a lot of scenarios why this could come up uh using muscle band to boost it to 60 and i i did not Play the Monkey Dark, but I am playing the Giratina to get that extra ping damage to get up to 70 with the Unknown, which I think is more than relevant enough to warrant a space in here.

uh, with the straight psychic babies, uh, cut Cleffa for the unknown, uh, here, and just feel like, you know, I put Tropical Beach back in, uh, as well, so you have still the Smoochum route to go in early Deoxys, uh, and then you have the unknown as well, and, uh, Yeah, untested, right? We haven't played with Unknown yet.

Absolutely.

Poison Dark has always been a fan favorite in GLC, so this is definitely the way to play it right now if you're looking for a special condition focused list or to play Dark at all.
