Danny Sullivan

Captured the pole position for Sunday's Can-Am race at Riverside International Raceway with a Saturday fast lap of 129.43 miles per hour.

The second fastest time was turned in by Danny Sullivan of Louisville, Kentucky, who was clocked at 127.65 miles an hour.

The third-place qualifier was Can-Am points leader Al Unser Jr., the son of the famous racing father from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Rounding out the top six fastest qualifiers were Jeff Travem, John Morton, and Randy Lewis.

I'd have to pick a field.

I was around a lot of Indy winners, Al Sr., Bobby Unser, Rick Mears, Danny Sullivan, Al Jr.

But from Formula One, God, Hamilton, Daniel, Senna.

Yeah.

One of them needs to be Danny, another one Daniel.

[laughs] I would vote for a governor that would just put Tennessee shirts on all the criminals in the state.

Would they wear them?

I remember when the event followed the Indy 500, there'd be a caravan coming up 65 from Indianapolis to set up camp in Milwaukee.

They had a thing at one point when I was working with a different station where they had a media day, and I played golf with Danny Sullivan, and we played against Bobby Rahal and then Channel 12 legend Mark Johnson at Westmore.

And Sullivan had never beaten Rahal on the golf course.

And he goes, you know, I've never beaten this guy.
