Danny Hay

... first test against France, but also her new role.

And Danny Hay, live out of Japan-

Hey, hey

... apparently will be in the car with Steve Corica going to Yokohama training.

And, um, you know, we're gonna certainly go into this season with exactly the same mentality.

Nick, look, I'm sure you're keen to get stuck into it, uh, and get this first game in your back pocket, but how disrupting was it for you for Steve Corica and Danny Hay to depart the ship?

Oh, do you know what? The, uh, change is always disrupting.

You, you'll know that well, Millsy.

But the more I think about it, the more I think the big, big loss as far as Auckland FC is concerned is the coaching staff.

Steve Corica, Danny Hay, Jonathan Gould, all no longer there.

A big part of me, Burge, believes that Steve Corica dragged this team to its success in the first two seasons just by sheer force of his own will more than anything else.

I mean, you spent a lot of time watching him in media conferences and on sidelines and, and chatted to him privately as well.

[laughs]

That's the wrong phrase, I know, but he's just like Ivan.

Uh, and Ivan played obviously in central defense but alongside Danny Hay actually for the early part of his career at, um, at the likes of Central United and places like that.

Could be a, a season where Luka Vesovic puts his hand up and says, "Hey, I'm a decent center back and this is the start of my professional career."

It is a new look, Auckland FC, though.

The coaching trio from the club's first two seasons, Steve Corica, Danny Hay and Jonathan Gould, have all departed.

Pedro Moreira is the new man in charge.

On the field, key members of the championship-winning squad, Guillermo Mai, Louis Vistrata, Dan Hall, Jake Goodwood-Reich, Liam Gillian and Jesse Randall have also all moved on.

What I really like about him is he's, A, he knows football through and through.

He's come with some new ideas, but he's also completely different to what we had before, you know? And so change has happened, and which is a good thing, you know? Other than his stature, he's about the same height as Karaka, but, you know, he kind of thinks differently, and he's going to play a different style of football, which I think is really exciting for the club.

Just before we move on from last season and, in fact, the last two years coaching teams, how different is it without Steve Corica, Danny Hay and Jonathan Gould around the joint?

Yeah, they're all characters, right? And they're definitely missed.

Again, we'll go back in time a little bit.

The previous manager was Danny Hay.

Danny Hay from 2019 to 2022.

His tournament ended with reaching the Intercontinental Playoffs for the World Cup and losing a close match with Costa Rica.

He was reportedly offered to reapply for the position, Danny Hay, but he declined.

And Darren Baisley, as we know, kind of part of the setup, took over, but just as an interim manager in November 2022.

Seven months later, in June 2023, though, he was appointed head manager and he brought them to victory in the 2024 election.

The coaching staff has been completely overhauled.

Steve Corica, Danny Hay and Jonathan Gould have all departed.

Pedro Moreira has taken over as head coach.

A number of important members of the championship-winning squad have also moved on, including Dan Hall, Gijomo Mai, Louis Vistrata and Jesse Randall.
