And finally, in an exclusive interview with Farmers Weekly, former Farm Minister Daniel Zeichner has revealed what really happens behind the scenes at DEFRA.

In a candid interview with Farmers Weekly's Abbey Kay one year after leaving the department, Mr Zeichner admitted Labour was not sufficiently prepared for government, described being man-marked by Treasury officials he'd never met... and said he was given no warning about the government's explosive decision to impose inheritance tax on farmers.

And to be fair, Daniel Zeichner at the reception did turn to Robert Shearsby, who's chief exec of the AIC, and say...

Can I just say that when I was in post, I found AIC very informative and they did get all their points across so I could understand what I was talking about having got this new brief.
