I moved to Nashville in 2008, and I've gone through a bit of an evolution, sonically.

But I think this record, I wrote it with pretty much the same two writers, also the producers of the record, Lawrence Rothman and Daniel Tashian.

It's just kind of cool to be in this little... brain trust but it was very brill building kind of inspired and um i do think maybe if i weren't from nashville i probably wouldn't get categorized in the spaces that i do i think that that's um due to the the region that i make music in a lot

so do you believe you're haunted by misperception

There were pretty big, heavy themes in the song about gender identity and What masculinity is, the expectations put on young old men, how they should be conform.

And the experience was so great that I was like, I have to work with them again.

Daniel Tashian, I've always been a fan of his work, especially with what he's done with Leon Bridges and Casey Musgraves.

And he's just got like a different perspective in terms of court arrangements.

And then when the right time came, I was like, "I want a whole album concept around Sunday Drive," and, and, uh, recorded it in Chicago, um, with, um, with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchick, and it was amazing.

Those guys I know from Kacey Musgraves.

Is that true?

In fact, it marks a creative evolution in her sound.

Now this is a departure from her traditional acoustic style.

In fact, the album introduces a more electric folk rock approach featuring a blend of mandolin, guitar, and piano.

I kinda sta- [laughs] I kinda left it under ra- I wouldn't bring it up to a lot of people.

One of the co-writes for Half Moon features the return of Natalie Hemby to Maggie's orbit and gives us a glimpse at a phase she's been hinting at but not fully revealing, perhaps, until now— the modern pop ballad.

Natalie Hemby, who has worked with Maggie Rose many times, returns here with a song that the two wrote along with producers Daniel Tashian and Lawrence Rothman.

Hemby, in addition to her own solo work, has written songs for the likes of Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, and Toby Keith, and is a member of the all-star quartet The High Women with Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires.

This is a bit of Hiding in Plain Sight, a song inspired by a well-intentioned but backhanded compliment that Maggie Rose received when she was called one of Nashville's best-kept secrets.
